35th Annual Asian Pacific Culture Week

APCW is celebrating its’ 35th birthday!! Come attend events throughout the week to celebrate the Asian Pacific/American community and heritage! Since its inception in 1973, APCW has been providing the UC Davis campus and members of local communities, ranging from Yolo County to the Bay Area, with cultural programs that foster awareness and understanding of the Asian Pacific American culture and experiences through communication, education, and self-affirmation.You can find a full list of events at Asian Pacific Culture Week. Events and panels run April 21 – 25, 2008.

KISSING COUSINS – A Film by Amyn Kaderali – Filmmaker Kaderali brings his debut feature film to this year’s festival starring Samrat Chakrabarti, Rebecca Hazlewood, Gerry Bednob, Zack Ward, Jaleel White and David Alan Grier

• CLOSING NIGHT – Thursday, May 8 – Aratani/Japan America Theatre

THE HOME SONG STORIES – A Film by Tony Ayres – Australian based director Ayres brings a personal story starring the amazing Joan Chen in one of her most powerful performances as a glamorous Shanghai nightclub singer and a mother of two who migrates to Australia and tries to begin a life for her family.

Forbidden Kingdom tops movie box office

“Forbidden Kingdom” debuted at No. 1 with $20.9 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday. Look for more #1 debuts this weekend as “Forbidden Kingdom” opens worldwide.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

1. “The Forbidden Kingdom,” $20.9 million.

2. “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” $17.3 million.

3. “Prom Night,” $9.1 million.

4. “88 Minutes,” $6.8 million.
