Esther Ku on NPR

Esther Ku was interviewed on NPR’s Talk of the Nation on the program It Ain’t Easy Getting to the Top. (This interview was before Esther Ku became a finalist on Last Comic Standing.) Here’s some of the highlights from the interview: She’s spent about 4 years in comedy and would like to do comedy full time. She is also a regular at some comedy clubs in NYC. From listening to the interview, it doesn’t seem that her exposure on network TV is translating to job offers yet. Esther still needs to work part time in a dental office to supplement her income.

Swoon by Marie Digby

Marie Digby release her first album earlier this year including a music video for her single “Say It Again“. She has been touring recently and had time to record her latest song Swoon.

Swoon : 2. to enter a state of hysterical rapture or ecstasy: The teenagers swooned at the sight of the singing star.
–noun

To make the video, she had to find a spot behind the hotel she’s at. The chair she’s sitting on is an abandoned chair in the parking lot (missing an arm). To record, she propped a computer with a camera on a shopping cart. (Talk about resourceful. The things you do as you become a budding star.)

Lyrics to Swoon by Marie Digby

honey, i can’t spell it out for you

this is far beyond

a miss-match of our personalities

you insist that life should always be

about saving and simplicity

but what a bore that sounds to me

and yet.. oh….

you keep on crawling back into my mind

and .. oh….

lately i’m feeling things that i just can’t deny

i should know by now this is bound to get messy

but i don’t care, no i don’t care

cause you make me swoon

butterflies, dizzy head, flutter heartbeats

you make me swoon

shaky hands, stuttered words, what is happening?

i never thought that you would be the one

to make me swoon…

to make me swoon..

now darling

i know it’s safe for me to say

that we don’t always see eye to eye

but that’s what i like about you

i will be the girl to set you free

help you put your mind at ease

and you’ll hold steady ground for me

i should know by now this is bound to get messy

but i don’t care, no i don’t care

cause you make me swoon

butterflies, dizzy head, flutter heartbeats

you make me swoon

shaky hands, stuttered words, what is happening?

you make me swoon

Blood Brothers DVD release

Chinese American Daniel Wu plays Fung in Blood Brothers. In the movie, Fung had been content with his simple village life. Due to unforeseen events, he had no choice but to see refuge in Shanghai. Fung is faced with a life he never dreamt of or wanted. Forced into this world of violence, a heroic side of him emerges.

Here’s a synopsis of Blood Brothers

BLOOD BROTHERS is set in 1930s Shanghai, a flourishing modern-day Babylon, replete with warlords, politicians, wealthy industrialists, courtesans and gangsters. Three innocent young brothers, Kang (Liu Ye, “Curse of the Golden Flower”), Fung (Daniel Wu, “Around the World in 80 Days”) and Xiao Hu (Tony Yang), arrive in this seeming paradise in search of a better life. Enticed by the rich and powerful world of organized crime, the three brothers start down a path of no return: they are hired to do the bidding for one of the city’s largest mob syndicate. When Fung begins an affair with the mob boss’ girlfriend, beauty Lulu (Shu Qi, “Transporter”), and life takes a difficult turn for all three brothers when the forbidden love affair is exposed. Friends turn against friends, brother against brother. The days of innocence have passed; the three brothers must stand up as men and make their choices.
