Free music – Ulysses by Goh Nakamura

Free music - Ulysses by Goh Nakamura

A few months ago, we posted that Goh Nakamura released his latest album “Ulysses”. Now he’s making is for free!!! Here’s a note from Goh Nakamura on why he’s made it free:

After four years in the making, my second album, Ulysses, has officially launched!

Whereas Daylight Savings, my first album, was written and recorded in solitude, Ulysses is a reaction to that; a celebration and collaboration with artists and people whom I’ve had the good fortune to meet through the first album.

The call to arms here is helping me cross the toughest threshold; getting my music out to the masses. As an independent musician, this is the bafflingly difficult part, and its nearly impossible to do alone. For that reason, I’m writing today to ask for your help. After much deliberation, I’ve decided to release this album as a free download.

Specifically, what I’m asking you to do is:

Download the album. Listen to it. Tell your friends on Facebook about it. Twitter it. Blog about it. I really believe theres something for everybody on this album. Ultimately, if it moves you, please purchase the limited edition CD the beautiful packaging/artwork is worth the price alone.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for joining me in this exciting, and scary part of the journey. Something tells me it’s just the beginning.

Sincerely,

Goh

p.s. As a companion piece to my album, I’ve curated a mix of songs from some of my favorite musicians that you’ll get with every download. In addition to wishing that the songs on Ulysses find a welcoming home, my hope is that you discover something new along with the new album that you might enjoy equally well.

Melamine triggers China import holds

Back in September, White Rabbit Candy and Chinese Milk were pulled in the US. As part of its ongoing strategy to address the present problem with melamine contamination of consumer products exported from the People’s Republic of China, FDA has expanded its import controls on Chinese dairy products, and food and feed products manufactured in China that contain dairy ingredients. Since Oct. 10, 2008, FDA has had an import alert in place for specific products found contaminated with melamine and melamine-related compounds. FDA has collected additional information on the scope of the melamine contamination problem in China, and determined a countrywide import alert is warranted. You will probably see your favorite cookies, crackers, drinks, etc. held up in customs until the product is cleared of melamine . You can find details of the alert here.

No adverse health effects have been reported in the United States from contamination with melamine of dairy products or dairy containing products. But melamine is not approved for direct addition to human or animal foods and no manufacturer is allowed to deliberately add it to any food for U.S. consumers.

As part of ongoing activities, FDA will also examine a range of protein-containing products beyond just dairy and dairy-containing products for contamination with melamine and melamine-related compounds. FDA will continue to take appropriate regulatory action if these efforts uncover additional contamination.

The FDA is advising consumers not to consume the following products because of possible melamine contamination:

* Fresh and Crispy Jacobina Biscuits

* Koala’s March Crème filled Cookies

* YILI Brand Sour Milk Drink

* YILI Brand Pure Milk Drink

* Blue Cat Flavored Drinks

* White Rabbit Candies

* Mr. Brown Mandehling Blend Instant Coffee (3-in-1)

* Mr. Brown Arabica Instant Coffee (3-in-1)

* Mr. Brown Blue Mountain Blend Instant Coffee (3-in-1)

* Mr. Brown Caramel Macchiato Instant Coffee (3-in-1)

Don Wakamatsu – Seattle Mariners new coach

Don Wakamatsu becomes the first Asian-American to manage in Major League Baseball. Could this be a new trend? In the NBA, Erik Spoelstra was named new Miami Heat head coach in April. Recently, Erik made his coaching debut. We hope both managers succeed. Here’s more about Don Wakamatsu:

Wakamatsu, 45, served as the bench coach for the Oakland A’s last year and is new general manager Jack Zduriencik’s choice over six other candidates: Boston Red Sox bench coach Brad Mills and third-base coach DeMarlo Hale; Arizona Diamondbacks third-base coach Chip Hale; St. Louis Cardinals third-base coach Jose Oquendo; Chicago White Sox bench coach and former Mariners infielder Joey Cora, and Randy Ready, the manager of Portland, the San Diego Padres’ affiliate in Triple-A.

A former catcher, Wakamatsu’s professional playing career spanned 12 seasons (1985-96) with seven organizations. He played in 18 major league games with the Chicago White Sox in 1991 and batted .226. All nine of his starts came with knuckleballer Charlie Hough on the mound.

Wakamatsu spent three seasons in the Los Angeles Angels organization, serving as the Angels minor league coordinator and roving catching instructor in 2001 and 2002. He also has managerial experience on the minor league level, heading up Double-A Erie (2000), Double-A El Paso (1999), Single-A High Desert (1998) and Peoria of the Arizona League (1997). Wakamatsus managerial record stands at 215-248.

He served as the Rangers bench coach for four seasons (2003-06) before taking over the third base coaching duties last season. He also assisted with the organization of spring training and worked closely with the Rangers catchers. Wakamatsu interviewed for the Rangers’ managerial opening in 2006, losing out to former A’s third-base coach Ron Washington, and spent the 2007 season coaching third base in Texas.

Wakamatsu takes over the reins of a team that finished last in the AL West in 2008, compiling a 61-101 record. But he knows the Mariners’ personnel from his time in the division and says he believes the team has talent and potential.

A native of Hayward, Calif., Wakamatsu graduated from Hayward High School in 1981, where he lettered in baseball, basketball and football. He lettered four seasons at Arizona State and earned All-Pacific 10 Conference honors in each of his final three seasons.

Don and his wife Laura make their off-season home in North Richland Hills, Tex. with their children, Jacob, Lucas and Jadyn.
