Terrorists attack Mumbai, India

Terror attacks in Mumbai have killed more than 100 people. These attacks were well planned and probably had ‘external linkages.’ Targets for the terrorists were American and British citizens at various locations including hotels, train stations, and a Jewish center.

Black-clad Indian commandoes raided two luxury hotels to try to free hostages Thursday, and explosions and gunshots shook India’s financial capital a day after suspected Muslim militants attacked a number of sites.

A British couple told broadcaster Sky News on Thursday how they had escaped the siege at the Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai, after a highly coordinated attack by suspected Muslim militants.

Indian-Americans and others across America with connections to Mumbai were frantically trying to get in touch with loved ones and colleagues as they watched the scenes from the city under siege play out.

Korean Santa Claus School

A South Korean amusement park is teaching students what it takes to be a good Santa Claus during the festive season. Dozens of Santa school students gathered on Wednesday (November 26) at Everland Park, which is about an hour’s drive south of Seoul, to master the Santa technique. Instead of riding a sleigh, the 30 male and female Santa students rode on the roller coaster, they were also trained to perfect their chuckle, dance-moves and caroling. At the end of the day, the students were each given a graduation diploma, and they threw up their Santa hats in celebration.

Citibank CEO Vikram Pandit on Charlie Rose

A conversation with Vikram Pandit, CEO of Citigroup.

Pandit was the President and Chief Operating Officer of the Institutional Securities and Investment Banking Group at Morgan Stanley, where he was responsible for the overall management of the group and focused on the trading, sales, and infrastructure aspects of the business (2000–2005). Prior to that position, Pandit served as the managing director and head of the Worldwide Institutional Equities Division (1994–2000), and as the managing director and head of the US Equity Syndicate (1990–1994) for Morgan Stanley. Pandit left Morgan Stanley with a few colleagues to start a hedge fund named Old Lane Partners. Citigroup subsequently purchased the fund in 2007 for $800 million. Pandit received approximately $165.2 million for this transaction. Many analysts believe that this hefty price was paid for a hedge fund with only $4.5 billion under management to get Pandit onto Citigroup.
