Jon & Kate Plus 8 Affair denied

Kate Gosselin of “Jon & Kate Plus 8” vowed Thursday to survive the tabloid firestorm that erupted over allegations that her husband cheated on her, a charge he denies.

Rumors of an affair have been lingering since February 2009. These past few weeks things really picked up. Us Weekly claims that Jon & Kate Plus 8 dad Jon Gosselin, 32, has been having an affair with third grade school teacher Deanna Hummel. However, within the same week Deanna Hummel, 23, tells PEOPLE exclusively, “We’re just friends. It’s absurd that anyone would think otherwise.” Jon Gosselin has released his own statement this week too, “Like most people, I have male and female friends and I’m not going to end my friendships just because I’m on TV. However, being out with them late at night showed poor judgment on my part. What makes me sick is that my careless behavior has put my family in this uncomfortable position. My family is the most important thing in my life and it kills me that these allegations have hurt them.”

China’s Unnatural Disaster: The Tears of Sichuan Province (HBO Documentary)

On Monday, May 12, 2008, a catastrophic earthquake leveled the Sichuan Province in rural China. Nearly 70,000 people died, 10,000 of whom were children. Now, their grieving parents want justice from their government. This 40-minute verité documentary visits with these parents in the days after the disaster as they unite in a festering anger, attempting to understand why children were allowed in such poorly constructed buildings, how government resources might have been misdirected by local officials–and why many of those same officials failed to respond to parents’ concerns in the hours and days after the tragedy. China’s Unnatural Disaster: The Tears of Sichuan Province premieres on Thursday, May 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT – four days before the one-year anniversary of the tragedy. See the schedule of when the document shows on HBO here.

Immediately after the earthquake, Ming Xia, professor of political science at the College of Staten Island went to his hometown as part of a film crew for the HBO Documentary, China’s Unnatural Disaster: The Tears Of Sichuan Province. You can see a photo essay is in the words of Ming Xia, and captures his experiences while working on the film here.

Dr, Sanjay Gupta on The Late Show with David Letterman

Dr. Sanjay Gupta was on The Late Show with David Letterman a few days ago. Sanjay Gupta loaded with credentials; an assistant professor at Emory University; CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent; and a practicing neurosurgeon. Dave is a bit concerned that Dr. Gupta is practicing, hoping it’ll eventually make him perfect. “Are you really a neurosurgeon?” No, I’m just practicing.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta had worked in the White House for First Lady Hillary Clinton. The experience enticed him to consider the Surgeon General position when it was recently offered to him. He eventually turned it down when he learned he would be away from his family too much and that he would have to give up surgery. Ironically, the Surgeon General doesn’t perform surgery. He would have to abandon his surgical career for the duration of the position. And his work on CNN as its Chief Medical Correspondent is a powerful position in that he reaches so many people. It’s not something he would want to give up.

What about this Swine Flu. It now seems to have been overblown. Dr. Gupta says at the time the flu was uncovered, it was deemed a brand new strain and was killing people in Mexico in the prime of their lives. Of course this should create great concern. It’s since been learned that this particular virus lacks some of the traits that would make it widespread deadly, but at the time no one knew where it would lead.
