Vigils for Laura Ling and Euna Lee

Today, nationwide vigils for Asian American journalists Laura
Ling and Euna Lee will be held. The two U.S. journalists, who work for San
Francisco-based Current TV – a media venture founded by former Vice
President Al Gore, were arrested March 17 near the North Korean border
while reporting on refugees living in China. Both women, accused by North
Korea of crossing into the country illegally from China and committing
“hostile acts,” will be tried on criminal charges on June 4th. Lisa Ling has hit the airwaves this week with appearances on the Today Show, Larry King, and Nightline in a plea for their safe return.

The organizers of the vigils hope to help influence a positive outcome for
Laura and Euna. Please show your support and join us in their fight for
freedom!

PaperDoll just finished up a music video for their single – Anything At All. Unlike other music videos we’ve seen recently, this one is animated. Not bad for an indie band. Although the group is 100% independent (no formal promotion or management), they’ve managed to attract a consistent NYC crowd (100+ paid covers at each gig) and sell 2,000 albums.



The song “Anything At All” is off Paperdoll’s debut album “Ballad Nerd Pop,” what was produced by producer Nick Hard (The Bravery, Aberdeen City, The Perfects) and executive producer Bryce Wilson (Brandy, Beyonce, Big Boi, Hillary Duff, Whitney Houston, Groove Theory). Hay Qua! NYC, here’s an neat event for you. The Hay Qua / That’s Neat mini-fest. The event is full of inspirational talks, works, and performances from the nation’s most innovative Vietnamese Americans. A room full of up and coming fashion designers, chefs, architects, photographers, bloggers, and film directors, among others. What they have to say may change the way you look at life. All these movers and shakers in one place make for a great networking opportunity. More information about the event here.

Also on the same day is Kollaboration NY. (BTW – The Kollaboration New York lineup has been announced.) The two events have combined together to offer a great deal on a full day of Asian American entertainment. Get the $40 combo ticket here before it ends on June 7, 2009.

UPDATE: Laura Ling and Euna Lee return home

More coverage for Laura Ling and Euna Lee. Monday was a busy day for Lisa Ling hitting up the Today Show and Nightline. Hopefully, the word is getting out. Joining Lisa Ling on Larry King live included Michael Saldate (Euna Lee’s husband), Iain Clayton (Laura Ling’s husband), Mary Ling )mother of Lisa and Laura), and Doug Ling (father of Lisa and Laura). All the families have bonded over this unfortunate situation including Mary and Doug Ling, who are separated. Communication with Laura Ling and Euna Lee has been very difficult. Compounding the problem is that Laura Ling has a recurring ulcer and Euna Lee has a 4 year old daughter. Hope things turn for the better soon.
