Dirty Dancing Spoof with Charlyne Yi and Channing Tatum

Charlyne Yi and Channing Tatum reenactment of a scene in Dirty Dancing between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Besides the dirty dancing, the pair recreates the dialog and hair. Check out the the wig on Charlyne Yi. We think it’s got to be a viral video to indirectly promote Paper Heart. (Remember that crazy office scene that was used to promote the movie “Wanted”). The movie “Paper Heart” come to theaters next week.

Kevjumba, aka Kevin Wu, made it on TV in the Houston area. You see a little bit of how Kevjumba shoots behind the scenes. He’s got a pretty simple setup laptop and cheap lights in his bedroom. Not only does he make money through his YouTube partnership, but he also gives it away in his JumbaFund. Check out his latest video below.

Also if you’re in the Los Angeles area on Friday, you can catch Kevjumba and other Asian American YouTubers at Magic Mountain.

AAIFF Community Screenings in New York

The 2009 Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF), which ran this past weekend, has announced additional screenings to be held on this weekend. In an effort to expanded its outreach, the AAIFF will provide community screenings in Harlem, Manhattan Chinatown and Flushing, Queens.

The Festival continues its partnership with the Maysles Institute in Harlem
with a screening of documentary feature *Whatever It Takes* on Thursday,
July 30th at 7:00 p.m. The film, which won the Audience Choice Award at this
year’s Festival, follows the first year of principal Edward Tom at the Bronx
Center for Science and Mathematics, a small, specialized school that is
still working to patch the cracks in America’s public education system.

On Friday, July 31st at 8:00 p.m., AAIFF and the Chinatown Partnership will
host an outdoor screening and block party in Columbus Park in Manhattan
Chinatown. The Festival invites local residents and visiting tourists to see
Hong Kong film *Pastry*, a playful story about love, marriage and growing
up.
. Outdoor screening in Chinatown is canceled due to inclement weather.

Venturing out to the Queens Library in Flushing, the Festival will showcase
two feature films,* Li Tong* and *Karma Calling*. Both were Festival
highlights: Karma Calling was the only feature to be screened twice during
AAIFF, and Li Tong’s director, Nian Liu, won the jury award for Best
Emerging Director in Narrative Feature. Following the feature presentations
will be a collection of short films from the Festival program, Home Is Where
the Heart Is. The screenings will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August
1st.

Megabot web series Trailer

Cherry Sky Films (the people behind Better Luck Tomorrow and Ping Pong Playa) teamed up with new-media company, 5432 Films, for their short web series, MEGABOT. Here’s a synopsis of Megabot:

In 1999, five attractive, multi-ethnic students from Anytown High discovered mystical PowerSleeves. United, the PowerSleeves control MegaBot, a colossal crime-fighting robot designed by Lord Galgon, who must defend earth from evil BioBorg invasion, week after week. Now, a decade later, they hate the job and they really hate each other – but they still need the work.

The web series reminds us of Power Rangers with stronger language. Clearly, this series is not going to be for kids. The trailer is Not Safe For Work. We’re told that there’s gonna be 5 episodes along with some bonus fun stuff. About 22 minutes of content overall. Look for the series to start in August.

BTW – Keep your eye on “Yellow” played by Randall Park. You may recognize him from the K-Y Intense Commercials or The Food Show.
