The Goods with Ken Jeong

Add another film, “The Goods,” to Ken Jeong’s list of appearances this summer. In The Goods, he plays car salesman Teddy Dang. (Check out the interview below with Ken Jeong in The Goods.) He’s already shown up in The Hangover and Sayonara Davey for Funny People. To help promote The Goods, Dr. Ken even strutted his stuff as a pimp on WWE and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. If you want more Ken Jeong, he’ll also be on the new comedy “Community” as Senor Chang.

Ponyo directed by Hayao Miyazaki

Ponyo (aka Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea) gets its theatrical release this week. The film is directed by the legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki from Studio Ghibli. (You may have seen other films from Studio Ghibli including My Neighbor Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service.) What makes this film truly amazing is that it is hand drawn unlike most animated films these days. Hayao Miyazaki drew the waves and sea himself. 80% of the movie take place in water. They man’s got skills.

The last Miyazaki film “Spirited Away” came to the US, but didn’t do well in the US Box Office even though it was backed by Disney and Pixar’s John Lasseter. For the Ponyo release, we’ve seen some changes in strategy. The film is again dubbed for the US market, but there are more well known stars voicing the characters (Tina Fey, Matt Damon, Liam Neeson) and more advertising touting that fact. Hope Ponyo does well in the US box office. Get ticket here.

Bandslam with Vanessa Hudgens

Is Vanessa Hudgens latest photo scandal during the same week of her new movie Bandslam just a publicity stunt. She gotten a lot of buzz for the photos and Bandslam is getting an 80% right now on RottenTomatoes from the critics here. Here’s more about the film with the High School Musical star:

Vanessa Anne Hudgens and Aly Michalka join Gaelan Connell, Scott Porter, and Lisa Kudrow in the music-driven comedy BANDSLAM. When gifted singer-songwriter Charlotte Barnes (Michalka) asks new kid in town Will Burton (Connell) to manage her fledgling rock band, she appears to have just one goal in mind: go head-to-head against her egotistical musician ex-boyfriend, Ben (Porter), at the biggest event of the year, a battle of the bands.

Against all odds, their band develops a sound all its own with a real shot at success in the contest. Meanwhile, romance brews between Will and Sa5m (Hudgens), who plays a mean guitar and has a voice to die for. When disaster strikes, it’s time for the band to make a choice: Do they admit defeat, or face the music and stand up for what they believe in?

Wing Pang on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien

Here’s a funny clip from a recent episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. As Conan checks out the NBC Store on the Universal lot, he meets Wing Pang. That’s Wing like chicken wing. Not only was Wing Pang part of the bit, but he also got to go on stage too. Wonder if he’ll be a regular on the show like Stuntman Steven Ho, who last time brought Weapons & Props. Nice find by 8asians

Update: Another appearance by Wing Pang (A Day with Wing Pang on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien)

Starburst commercial – Scotch Korean Contradiction

These commercials came out awhile ago. Guess we forgot to post them. Anyways, not sure what direction the Scotch Korean commercial is going. Are they trying to say the two races are a contradiction to each other? The Loud Mime commercial makes more sense cuz it’s actually a contradiction. Starburst should just go back to the David Choi videos. (Thanks to Todd A. for the reminder on the commecrials)

UPDATE: More Scotch Korean commercials from Starburst
