If you missed it yesterday, Manny Pacquiao made his first nationally televised talk show appearance in the US on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Not only does the guy boxer, but her also acts and sings. He’s got a movie called “Wapakman,” where he plays a superhero. (Yes, an Asian super hero!! He should be part of the Secret Identities crew) The Filipino boxer is also working on his second album. (How does he fit all this in while he’s training for his next fight?)

Here’s some more interesting things from the interview. Manny Pacquiao travels with an entourage of 30 people and lives in a Los Angeles apartment with 8 other people. He’s also married with 4 kids (Junior, Michael Steven, Mary Divine Grace, and Queen Elizabeth). Yes, the kid’s name is Queen Elizabeth.

Margaret Chin wins NYC District 1 (Chinatown)

None of the major TV news outlets covered Margaret Chin’s historic win in New York City’s District 1 Council race. We found some good footage on her historic win online. (Props to The Lo-Down for the coverage.) She becomes the first Chinese council member to represent Manhattan’s Chinatown, and the first Asian woman on the City Council. The victory party was not only a celebration of Chin’s accomplishment but also a celebration of NY Chinatown’s new political clout. She joins John Liu in making history for Asian Americans in NYC.

John Liu wins NYC Comptroller seat

Democrat John Liu won a decisive victory by defeating Republican Joe Mendola,76% to 19%, in the race for New York City Comptroller. The Queens Councilman made history as he becomes the first Asian-American elected to citywide office in NYC. (We find this hard to believe, but it’s true. First Asian American to hold a city wide office in New York). Some people are already talking about a possible run for mayor in 2013.

And an update to our previous post Asian Americans win Democratic primaries in NYC. Other NYC results have Peter Koo (R) defeating Yen Chou (D) in a very tight race in District 20, Kevin Kim losing in a close race for District 19, and Margaret Chin taking NYC District 1 (Chinatown). Margaret Chin is the first Asian American to represent New York’s Chinatown.

Congrats to all the winners. Now the hard work begins.
