Here’s another Asian American artist behind the scenes – music composer George Shaw. If you’re a Wong Fu Productions fans, you may have seen his name attached to the music for the shorts like Just a Nice Guy, Up in da Club, and Poser. He’s also worked on films like Asian Stories, Ghost Rider, and Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang. Survival Skills directed by Todd Angkasuwan & produced by illmind

Survival Skills shows the influence of Asian Americans behind the hip hop scene. Although they are not in the video, both Todd Angkasuwan and illmind play important roles behind the scene. Todd Angkasuwan directed the Survival Skills video. Check out the virtual gaming Tron-like world. illmind produced the song for KRS-ONE & Buckshot’s new album “Survival Skills.” The video kinda make us think of Turbo with Justin Chon.

You can hit up illmind for beats here and Todd Angkasuwan for directing gigs here. Get Survivor skill at KRS-One & Buckshot - Survival Skills or on Amazon

Queen Bee by Tina Guo

The Flight of the Bumblebee will never be the same. Electric cellist Tina Guo plays a heavy metal arrangement of “Flight of the Bumblebee”. She rips up the electric cello in the video. This music video won “Best Music Video/Short Film” at the LA Downtown Film Festival and nominated for “Best Music Video” by the Hollywood Music and Media Awards.

Tina has clearly shifted away from the classical look and sound. She’s got her own Industrial Metal band, “Clan of Guo,” which is in the studio writing and recording. The band will feature both instrumental tracks and songs with guest singers.

If you wanna hear Tina’s classical side, check her out on Tina Guo or at Amazon.

BTW – how good do you have to play an instrument with a model named after you? Tina Guo plays a Custom Tina Guo Model Yamaha SVC-210 and is an Official Yamaha Performing Artist and Clinician.

She kinda reminds us of Vanessa Mae back in the 1990’s. Also check out The Hsu-nami and Violinist Sue Son on Britain’s Got Talent.
