Go Hard by 454 Life Entertainment

A new Asian American hip hop crew has assembled in the West called 454 Life Entertainment, which consists of Thai, Drew Deezy, Nump Trump and IZ. (check out their intros below). This crew just release their first single “Go Hard” with an official music video to follow. They’re each successful in their own right (see Never Fall 2010 and Dolla Skrill Y’all), but together we expect big things from this well connected group. Yo, it’s time to GO HARD or go home. We see the vision.

Time Goes By with re:plus x Hydroponikz x Anika

Here’s a heart felt song remembering those who have passed called “Time Goes By” with re:plus x Hydroponikz x Anika. It’s a global collabo from Japan to the USA to Canada. It’s a touching track reminiscing about those you love. Look for it off the album Everlasting Truth by re:plus, which includes Hiroaki Watanabe(trackmaker) and Kohei Sato(DJ). His debut album will be available 3.3.10 on iTunes.

Previously, we heard Hydroponikz on the Children of the Sun Remix by Deep Foundation, but this song shows a different side of him.

Lyrics to Time Goes By with re:plus x Hydroponikz x Anika

Verse 1 (Hydroponikz):
Writer’s block, sick of grippin’ on this damn pencil
Messin’ with this man’s mental. I need to take a break.
I got simple symptoms of a man, gentle
Stressing ’cause my fam’ miss you. I need to see your face
On the Grand Central, navigation telling’ me to drive slow
Thinkin’ about all of the places I roam and people in my home
I wanna know why they come and go
Why I’m getting all these thoughts the piano and the drum evoke
I’m reminded of the first time we spoke, how you loved the
First rhyme I wrote, except the curses, but you loved the jokes
How you told me nights I wasn’t actin’ right
Never letting me take some bad advice, we had our fights, but
It’s like your life was meant for you to be my mentor and my guardian
These feelings that I never want to enter in my heart again
Are seeping in, I’m weakened, I’m alive but I’m cold
I imagine you’re my passenger, reminisce on the road, back through time

Chorus (Anika):

Time, Time Goes By
Still I cry
Reminiscing ’bout you
And at night, I close my eyes
And ask why
I have to live without you. (In My Life)

Verse 2 (Hydroponikz):
First Michael Jackson passes, now every day I’m askin’
Why weren’t you able to stay?
Days are only kind of better, so I’m writing you this letter
Full of things I never got to say.
First and foremost I love you and that never changes
When you left, I couldn’t gauge it, the pain was outrageous
But now it’s kind of strange, you help me get through the days just
By thinking of your face and reminiscing through the pages
Everything I wrote and that I’m saying on them stages
I’m passionate, I hear your laugh again and little traces
Of your smile flicker through my closed eyes,
Wishin’ I could nose dive in your heart’s ocean and just float by,
Who knows why I feel the way that I do
I got more to say but I think that I’ll just save it for you
For that first day we meet again, the stories will be told
We’ll be drivin’ through our lives and reminisce on the road, back through time

Bridge (Anika):
Reminiscing on the better days, close my eyes and its like I can see your face
Grandpa always had a joke, I remember like it was yesterday
Last night when I fell asleep, I dreamed you were here right next to me.
We were young playing in the street, just kicking it old school like this beat (this beat)
Best friend always had my back, always real and Im really grateful for that
Good friends from back in the days, so no one can every, every take your place
Seems like all my inspiration is moving and leaving and passing on
Bright stars that inspire me, touch my life and next minute they’re gone

Surrogate Valentine movie with Goh Nakamura

Musician Goh Nakamura has been cast in the lead role of the upcoming independent film Surrogate Valentine, directed by Dave Boyle (White on Rice). Boyle and Nakamura developed the story inspired by Nakamura’s eponymous song of his debut album Daylight Savings. The multi-city set Valentine is targeted for a 2011 release. Instead of a music video, Goh’s making a full blown movie from his song.

“I’m excited to collaborate with Dave on this, we were comparing notes on being independent artists out on the road, and thought ‘why not base a film around it?'” said Nakamura. In addition to playing the lead role and contributing to the story, Nakamura will compose original songs and music for the film’s soundtrack.

“Goh’s a great performer, and I think he’ll prove to be a wonderful actor in his first feature film role,” remarked Boyle. “I’m a fan of his music, and I’m glad we found a long form project to do together.” The pair previously collaborated on a music video for Nakamura’s White on Rice theme song. The film also reunites Boyle with Rice co-writer Joel Clark who wrote the final shooting script for Valentine. Los Angeles based actor Chadd Stoops has been cast in a key supporting part, other roles are currently casting. Boyle will co-produce and release the film through his Tiger Industry Films label.

Kim Yu-Na Wins Olympic Gold With Record Score

Kim Yu-Na destroyed the Olympic record for the highest score in women’s figure skating with a world-record combined score of 228.56. The South Korean took the gold medal easily winning with a 23.06-point margin, while Mao Asada of Japan picked up silver. (Watch The Queen’s performance here.) USA was shut out of the podium, but Mirai Nagasu finished 4th overall about 12 points away from bronze. (See her performance here.) Look for this 16 year old to continue to be a strong contender in the skating world in the future.

More Asian Americans at the 2010 Winter Olympics are still competing.
