Write a song with Kina Grannis – Part 1

Write a song with Kina Grannis - Part 1

Kina Grannis gets interactive on YouTube. She wants to write a song with you, her fans. You submit your lyrics to the melody she created. Then help vote up the best lyrics over the next 2 weeks! Here’s more from Kina:

Over the next couple of months we are going to write a song together! We’ll be breaking up the song into 5 different parts: verse 1, verse 2, chorus, verse 3 and the bridge. I will write the melody and you will write the words.

Here’s how it works:
1. Watch the video above and listen to the melody for the first verse (at the end of the video).
2. Write the lyrics to this verse! Write about anything you want, but know that inappropriate ones will be flagged and removed.
3. Submit your lyrics right here in the Moderator Section. Don’t submit them as comments on the video or they won’t get voted on.
4. Vote! Whether or not you are submitting lyrics, I need your help to find the best verse out there. Give thumbs up to the lyrics that you like the best.

In two weeks, thanks to all of your help, we will have selected the best lyrics for verse 1, and I’ll start round two to find our next lyricist.

At the end of all of this I will put all our lyrics together, record the song, and give credit to everyone who played a part. I know there are so many awesome people out there with so many great things to say, I want to hear it!

Stop Whinin’ by J. Reyez

Lyrics to Stop Whinin’ by J. Reyez

I been hated on. they talk about me and the city knows
The boy gotta gritty flow, I shoot my own videos
Haters getting mad ’cause I erase them off the track
They had a name but I replace and I take them off the map
And fearing me will bother, you’ll get lyrically slaughtered
And the public will hear it more clearer than your water
At this rate, spin em around like a disc plate
On this day, get their face, put em on display
I’m sick of em, it’s getting intense, and my shit’s great
I’m killing em in self defense, is it a mistake?
Get rid of em, I gotta do it, and when I spit flames
Finish em, chop and screw em just like a mixtape
Your swagger ain’t right, got blades, daggers and knives
No way you’ll stay alive when you get stabbed through the side
I spit a rhyme describing the sharpness of my flow
Keep it real in your lines and the farther you will go

David Choi may lose YouTube channel

David Choi may lose YouTube channel
Musician David Choi is endanger of losing his YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/davidchoimusic). Why? The record labels (Warner Music Group and older publishing companies) are taking down videos of people who cover their songs. These companies are trying to protect their artists and music. However, they either don’t understand how to or don’t fully embrace the online environment. (On YouTube, covers are technically not allowed.) Some companies like Sony and Universal are fine with YouTubers putting up videos, since they get paid on the advertising as well as song sales from ads that show up on the videos. Some labels aren’t seeing eye to eye on what YouTube thinks is the appropriate amount to pay the labels. These labels are taking down videos and enforcing their copyrights. Listen to David Choi’s thoughts on the subject.

Overall, record labels have not adapted well to the changing online environment. We’re sure you’ll see more videos taken down and more copyright videos like David Choi’s going up.

Update: David Choi’s YouTube channel is now suspended. Show your support for David Choi by tweeting #FreeDavidChoiMusic

Update: David Choi’s YouTube account is back as of 6.7.10.
