The Conversation by Patrick Xi Hao Chen

Here’s a touching short by Patrick Xi Hao Chen. The director’s commentary offers some great insight on the short film:

The original concept of this story was about two individuals having a language barrier at a park bench. After a few drafts and revisions of script, emerged “The Conversation”. Shannon wanted the characters to be more engaging with emotions. I agreed. I started writing a whole new draft and the story became a dedication to my passing friend, Alex. I started to reminisce the day of his funeral, and how everybody felt from his departure. Subsequently, I started to think about the times we shared together rather than his passing. In other words, Alex is alive in all of us. This video is for him.

If you’ve lost someone close recently, this ones for you.

The Syrenz

The Syrenz

If you’ve seen the music video for Somebody To Love by Justin Bieber x Usher, you’ll notice the dancers with the hot pink fans around Usher. With the help of our reader (thanks Ivy), we found out the dance crew is none other than The Syrenz based out of Los Angeles. Here’s more about them:

THE SYRENZ are a group of intriguing, dynamic females that have the “DESIRE TO INSPIRE” by sharing their passion for street dance with the community. They create compelling and original artistry that celebrates the beauty in culture and the captivating dimensions of a woman. Both strength and femininity are exhibited in their movement while upholding the classic street dance foundations of b-girling, locking, whacking, new jack swing, and house. The Syrenz enjoy performing and competing throughout the Hip Hop community and their skills have been recognized worldwide. They also uphold a strong passion for youth outreach, teaching their knowledge and techniques not only locally in the LA/South Bay areas but also across the nation and the world.

You only see four members in the music video, but the crew is much bigger : Corina “Lady Ionik” Acosta, Donna “Sunny D Lock” Arrogante, PeiPei “Peppa” Yuan, Tiffany “Jimini” Bong, Valerie “Val Pal” Acosta, Wendy “Wenrock” Lam

Word is that you may see them in Step Up 3D this summer. Learn more about them on their website here.
