Alex Wong does hip hop on SYTYCD

Alex Wong does hip hop on SYTYCD

For all his concerns about not being about to do hip hop, Alex Wong killed it last night on So You Think You can Dance Season 7. The ballet dancer was transformed to a hip hop dancer. (He looked really nervous in the beginnning.) Watch this dope routine between Alex Wong and Twitch to the music of “Outta Your Mind” by Lil’ Jon & LM*AO and choreographed by Tabitha & Napoleon D’uomo. They manage to incorporate ballet moves in the dance set. It’s gotta be one of the best hip hop routines on SYTYCD. The duo received an extended standing ovation and high marks from each judge.

The LXD : Episode 1 sneak peek

The LXD : Episode 1 sneak peek

The LXD officially launches next week on 7.7.10. We posted some behind the scenes footage with director Jon M. Chu. Now, we’ve got a sneak peek of the first episode. Here’s the synopsis: “Against his father’s wishes, Trevor attends the prom and shows off his bboy moves.” Looks like a dance off right on the first episode.

Here’s some thoughts about the LXD series from us. We were quoted in an SFGate.com column today.

And then there’s the third in Jon Chu’s series of dance-off flicks, “Step Up 3D.” “It’ll be the biggest surprise hit of the summer,” asserts Kevin Hsieh, who runs the videoblog ChannelAPA. “Jon Chu knows how to market dancing; just look back at the online dance battle he staged, the biggest in YouTube history: ACDC versus M&M Cru with Miley Cyrus. With his new Web series, ‘LXD’ — ‘Legion of Xtraordinary Dancers‘ — starting up on Hulu in July, all the dance hype will lead directly into the ‘Step Up 3D’ release in August. And hey, both feature Harry Shum Jr. — think of ’em as the only ‘Glee’ action you’ll get this summer!”

Wonder Woman Makeover

Wonder Woman Makeover

Wonder Woman is getting a makeover at DC Comics. Bestselling artist and DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee has redesigned her costume for the modern era. Starting with Wonder Woman #600, her outfit will include midnight blue jacket, black tights, and boots. Out is the swimsuit style outfit made popular by Lynda Carter in the 70’s

Here’s some thoughts from Jim Lee about the change:

“There’s nothing more daunting than re-designing an icon, but what was refreshing and novel in Joe Straczynski’s directive to be bold in our choices was that we were starting with no preconceptions. This was no mere tweaking, no change of half-measures like haircuts or alterations of color schemes. We decided to go for broke, take no prisoners and let me tell you—it was difficult. Wonder Woman’s costume is so infused into our understanding of the identity of the character that it took many numerous back and forths ’til we broke down what existed, got back metaphorically to the clay from which Wonder Woman started and something new started to form. A design worthy of the mantle of Wonder Woman but one that didn’t scream classic superhero! So we played down and scaled back the iconic elements—the stars, the eagles, the double WW’s, lightened up the motifs and added armor which could pass as street gear. Visually, the character seems edgier than before but stylish enough to warrant a second, albeit cautious, glance. The jacket and boots confirm the costume’s functionality and the open, thinner tiara and shaped bracelets reveal a lighter, even youthful, bent to the Amazonian Princess. All in all, a difficult but rewarding reworking of an iconic costume to usher in a new age; a fresh look worthy of the character defining journey JMS has in store for her ultimate rebirth!”
