Asian American artists on YouTube

Over the weekend, Justin Bieber and his back up singers Legaci did a show in the San Francisco Bay Area. A local TV station ran a story about how Asian Americans are trying to break in the main stream music industry. The piece features video clips from Baby by Legaci x Cathy Nguyen x Traphik, That Girl by David Choi, apl.de.ap, Cathy Nguyen, Gabe Bondoc, and Sam Tsui. The internet equalizes the playing field for entertainers. However, Asian Americans still have a tough time breaking to the mainstream.

Rumble by Ken Leung

Rumble by Ken Leung

Actor Ken Leung (Lost) jumped into the director role for Interpretations Film Initiative. His short film Rumble takes you through a journey with a father and daughter on the sights and sounds of the New York subway system. With our busy lives, we don’t always take in everything around us. This is yet another interesting perspective utilizing the same script.

Here’s a statement by Ken Leung about his work:

I was invited to submit a film just as I was leaving Hawaii and returning home to New York. After Lost, the premise of creating a story around four lines without context felt familiar. The idea for a subway story came from a driver in Hawaii, who once declared that, if he ever visited New York, he would never go underground to take the subway. Rumble is an ode to NYC, the MTA, and friends who do things for you just because you ask.

Brenda Song in The Social Network
We spotted Brenda Song in the trailer for The Social Network, the movie about facebook. She plays Christy Lee, a smart and sexy Harvard University student. Watch the trailer for Brenda Song (see 1:18 mark, 1:28 mark, 1:55 mark, and 2:02 mark) and you’ll see she shed her clean Disney image. She’s making out with guys and torching stuff on fire. Supposedly, she hooks up with Justin Timberlake. Here’s a synopsis of the film:

On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history… but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications. From director David Fincher and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin comes The Social Network, a film that proves you don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies. The film is produced by Scott Rudin, Dana Brunetti, Michael De Luca, and Cean Chaffin and based on the book “The Accidental Billionaires” by Ben Mezrich.

Brenda Song’s BFF in the film, Alice, is played by Malese Jow. Other key characters include Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg), Facebook cofounder Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield), and co-founder Napster Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake)
