Mother by John P. Raposas

Mother by John P. Raposas

Better know for his Lexationships series, director John P. Raposas made a huge departure from what he’s have been doing lately with his entry in the Interpretations Film initiative. His short “Mother” is a hardcore drama about adoption. The piece runs you through several emotions in the span of three minutes. Overall, it’s very touching. Currently, “Mother” has the most comments on the Interpretations site.

Leave your comments about the short here.

Here’s the director’s statement:

I was actually in the audience at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival during the panel when the contest was launched. I sat there in awe around so many people who I’d read about online or seen in movies, and that’s when everything clicked. Immediately, I began work on my script, but didn’t think I would be able to scrape the money together. So, I shelved the script for two months, wondering if I could gather the funds to ever see it made. Fortunately, my producer, J.R. Sambajon, found a way to pull the production together with really only enough money to pay for food. They say that “no one ever makes it on their own,” and that was especially the case with this film. A huge “thank you” all to the cast and crew that donated their equipment, time, and performances to this production — I really can’t thank you enough, and I hope I made you guys proud.

BTW – be sure to watch some great adoption documentaries on PBS for Wo Ai Ni Mommy and In the Matter of Cha Jung Hee. Great films on a topic most of us don’t think about.

While we hear about a few Asian American success stories like Far East Movement with Like a G6, there are many Asian American artists that aren’t getting the breaks in the music industry they deserve. Lack of support from the music labels don’t deter these artists. They keep grinding and they don’t quit. Sometimes they even band together like Joanlee x LiL Crazed x Krystle Cruz x Michelle Martinez. Together, they released a remix of Chris Brown’s Deuces with their own twist to it. The track reinforces their place as independent artists without the support of record labels. Don’t block their shine!! Get familiar with these names they’re here to stay.

Lyrics to Get Familiar by Joanlee x LiL Crazed x Krystle Cruz x Michelle Martinez

(Joanlee Verse 1)
i can care less what you heard
ain’t trippin’ off what they told ya, ah, ah, ah
you gon hear it here first
it ain’t gon stop me
i’ve been going hard on the grind for way to long now
been thru the bullshit, so i ain’t gon quit, might as well get used to this

(Hook)
this is a movement, just watch how i do this all for you (Get, Get, Get familiar)
this is a message to the haters, haters, haters
I’m glad you’re all aboard (Get, Get, Get familiar)
you not gon block my shine, block my shine, block my shine (Get, Get, Get familiar) NUH UGH
you aint gon block my shine, block my shine, block my shine UGH UGHH

(Joanlee Verse 2)
Here i go,
yeah, they steady told me that i wasn’t allowed, but i BET they all hearin me now, OH OH,
so every closed door i’m kickin’ em down, and lettin ’em know that I’m comin out, NO HOMO!
The industry hiding like they don’t wanna hear this, actin like they don’t see me on their porch (Jahovah’s Witness)
but this time, i don’t need your approval, like a teenager in heat, i don’t need your approval
said i don’t have a market and u ain’t feelin it, i got a fan base off of open mics and the internet,
i used to have to wait, to get thru to you, now i push out what i want from my home studio,
had to learn the basics, i’m done w/ being patient, you see the game is changing, and i’m ready to playin’,
if you don’t know, then u can go and ask em, so for now you’ve been formally warned now play my anthem

(Lil Crazed)
Look, haters on some bullshit like some cattle feces,
tryna match me to some mathematics call me average emcee
but evidently i’m not, ugh, ugh, my brain ain’t shaped as an octagon
so my mind can’t mentally be stopped ugh ugh
i do this to the end of me, i’m like a centapede,
i move a hundred feet w/ one step, one step
so i’ma, make moves, because i know i done paid dues,
that’ll soon, get my sons set, in Sunset (Blvd.)
so, haters stop playing, unless you playing me,
still Independent these Majors can’t seem to Label me, (K-I-D)
Cuz I’m like Walmart, they won’t Target me,
maybe i don’t shop enough, they say they can’t market me
asking what u try for, you ain’t gon fly boy
but i’m representing Independence like July 4th, (Fireworks)
So throw me in the Pool and I ain’t talking Billiards,
I’m talking bout this music baby, get get familiar (Joan!)

(Krystle Cruz)
Always under rated, got me so frustrated, nothing i can do, no, no…
You better listen up, hurry up I’m standing up, to what u put me through yea…
I ain’t the shy chick, ain’t nothing to mess with, I’ma go get it strive to be the bestest
you’ll be sorry when you change your mind, i’ma do me, I’ma break free, yeah

(Michelle Martinez)
I do one thing, you tell me you don’t like it, i do anything to please you
but in reality, what my skin is telling me i’ll never be good enough for you, huh
I’m done waiting, ready for the taking, i deserve the top spot to,
so what you gonna say, when i do things my way,
hear me now, I’ma take my bouts, so now I’m takin’ over

Trick Habit by Rocky Rivera

Trick Habit by Rocky Rivera

Rocky Rivera released her latest music video “Trick Habit“. The music video’s story line has Dr. Rocky Rivera with her infomercial offering the prescription to fix your man. It’s got a 50’s/60’s vibe in the predominately black and white video. Guys beware! Dr. Rocky Rivera’s medicine may be hazardous to your “health”.

Director Patricio Ginelsa and producer A.J. Calomay are the brainchilds of this music video with elements similar to Yummy by Hopie Spitshard. The pair has been busy cranking out Asian American music video including Crooks & Rooks by Bambu, Old Man Raps by Bambu, Love Affair by J-Ricz, and American Pie by Vox Merger.

Keep on Dreaming by Tommy C x Adda Angel

Lyrics to Keep on Dreaming by Tommy C x Adda Angel

(Verse 1)
I step in my ride, turn on the radio,
And now I’m driving down south now, wondering which way to go.
Deep down inside I pray you think of me,
Because I got it all but I still feel incomplete.

(Pre-hook)
See I almost got this condo paid for and I be traveling round the world.
I got the ice that be glistening but still there’s something missing,
This image of me and this girl.
You see I never even met her before.
Does she know me? I’m still unsure.
But my feelings I can’t ignore.
It’s all right, Imma keep on dreaming.

(Hook)
With every sunset folding, doors swing open,
Comes a brand new day.
Just got to keep believing, don’t stop fighting,Till the very end,
Just got to keep on dreaming, keep on dreaming,
Dreaming.
Just got to keep on dreaming, keep on dreaming,
Cuz dreaming is free, keep on dreaming.

(Verse 2)
There’s always gonna be somebody that’ll put you down.
(Just to let you know) When the haters talk, let it go in and out.
There’s no sense on stressing bout things you can’t control.
Cuz in the end of the day to me you are so beautiful.

(Pre-hook)
Don’t even put your head down, say you are a letdown,
Get yourself off the ground.
You may have lost the battle but the war isn’t over,
Don’t even back down.
There’s no pain that time can’t mend,
And in me you still got a friend,
You see the world isn’t coming to an end,
It’s alright, just keep on dreaming.

(Hook)
With every sunset folding, doors swing open,
Comes a brand new day.
Just got to keep believing, don’t stop fighting,
Till the very end,
Just got to keep on dreaming, keep on dreaming,
Dreaming.
Just got to keep on dreaming, keep on dreaming,
Cuz dreaming is free, keep on dreaming.

(Rap Bridge)
Picture me glad but don’t picture me mad we got them hope and
start to kickin’ kickin’ kickin’ kickin’ them flab.
If they can’t have what we had, it’s sad and why is that? Cuz
what we had certainly like no one can never compared.
Now it’s a dream so it seems like no surprise to this world,
but if you make it come true worth more than diamonds and pearls.
Don’t lose your grip, show ’em peeps that life is more than just a song
anything is possible let’s keep your dreaming on.

(Hook x2)

Like a G6 on a Banjo by David Choi

Like a G6 on a Banjo by David Choi

David Choi released a Banjo cover of Far East Movement’s Like a G6. He takes the techno pop track and turns it bluegrass. His interpretation of the song is hilarious. FM got a kick out of this one and even gave it three fingers up on their blog. (see it here.) With Like a G6 breaking through the the mainstream music charts, we expect to see more unique and interesting covers hitting YouTube.

By the way, G6 is referring to a jet.
