Tim Lincecum and the Giants win the World Series

San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum brought his A-game to Game 5 of the 2010 World Series Game. The reigning two-time National League Cy Young winner pitched 8 innings giving up 3 hits including a homerun, but had 10 strikes including 3 in the third inning. He becomes the fifth pitcher in World Series history to have 10 or more strikes in a clinching game. Not only did the Giants win their first Series since relocating from New York to San Francisco in 1958, but they also earned baseball’s biggest prize for the first time since 1954 — ending the Majors’ third-longest dry spell.

Congrats to Tim Lincecum and the Giants!

SF readers, the San Francisco Giants ticker tape parade through the city takes place on Wednesday at 11am at Washington and Montgomery Street and go southbound on Montgomery Street to Market Street, before continuing westbound on Market Street to Civic Center Plaza. Following the parade, on the steps of City Hall, the mayor will present the team with the key to the City.

Jeremy Lin scores first NBA points

Jeremy Lin scores first NBA points

In yesterday’s Warriors vs Lakers game, Jeremy Lin racked up a lot of NBA firsts for himself including his first assist, first rebound, first foul, and first points of his young NBA career. During his 16+ minutes of play, he ended up with 4 steals, 1 rebound, 3 assists, 5 fouls, and 2 points. This adds to his 1 steal in his first NBA game. At the moment in the early NBA season, he’s also in the Top 10 NBA leaders for steals per game and #1 for steals per 48 minutes. If he keeps playing like this, you could see him continue as a steals leader in his rookie season.

Ong Bak 3

Ong Bak 3

The trailer for the third Ong Bak movie is out. Ong Bak 3 is the the sequel to Ong Bak 2 and a prequel to Ong Bak. Martial arts legend Tony Jaa writes, directs, produces and stars in ONG BAK 3, the third and final installment in one of the most beloved action series of all time. Picking up at the cliffhanger ending where Ong Bak 2 leaves off, Jaa ramps up the epic supernatural elements of the previous film, while still maintaining the trademark bone-crunching action that the series is known for. This time he must face his ultimate enemy: a fierce supernatural warrior named “Demon Crow,” played by fellow martial arts sensation Dan Chupong (Dynamite Warrior). Eagerly anticipated by martial arts aficionados for some time, the matchup of Jaa and Chupong is explosive.

ONG BAK 3 premieres On Demand, Apple iTunes, Xbox Live, Playstation, Amazon and Vudu December 3, 2010 and in theaters January 14, 2011.

The House of Suh

The House of Suh

The documentary “The House of Suh” is getting buzz in the past few weeks. Recently, the film picked up wins at the 2010 Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival and the 2010 San Diego Asian Film Festival. Here’s more about The House of Suh:

Obligation, choice and loyalty are the values called into question in this compelling portrait of the Suhs, a Korean-American family whose quest for the American Dream would end in the tragic collapse of their household. Yoon Myung and Tai Sook Suh immigrated to America for a better life for their children, Andrew and Catherine. But their pursuit of happiness quickly became riddled with misfortune, culminating on September 25, 1993, when Andrew shot and killed his older sister’s fiancé of eight years, Robert O’Dubaine, at Catherine’s bidding.

Eloquently narrated by the family’s youngest son Andrew, The House of Suh examines the complex dynamics of the Suh family and the values embraced and rejected by Andrew and his sister Catherine, culminating in their planning and execution of a crime that shocked the Korean-American community and ignited a media frenzy. Those closest to Andrew expressed shock and disbelief: how could a young man with a promising future allow himself to be convinced into committing murder? As the Suh’s complex history unfolds, issues of cultural assimilation, traditional values and justice are examined, raising questions of guilt, innocence and the illusive gray area in between.

Countering the media coverage, the film instead attempts to reconstruct the elements of a family torn apart, raising questions of whether it is the options we are given or the choices we make that define who we are.
