channelAPA.com turns 3

channelAPA.com turns 3

Three years ago channelAPA.com set out to create something special for the Asian American community. Not only did we want to provide great Asian American entertainment to the public, but we also wanted to support the indie artists. Our crew has had the chance to connect with musicians, actors, directors, and all sorts of entertainers. None of what we do could have happened without the support of the Asian American community. While we initially started with the U.S. market in mind, the site reaches well beyond the USA including Canada, Asia, Australia, Europe, and other parts of the world. channelAPA.com truly appreciates each and every one of you and will continue to strive for more.

Here’s some interesting stats and facts to share with you from our short history:

Can’t Nobody by 2NE1 (English version)

Can't Nobody by 2NE1 (English version)

Korean girl group 2NE1 dropped an English version of their song “Can’t Nobody”. The ladies of 2NE1 (CL, Minzy, Dara and Bom) show you how a crossover is done with their hip hop electronic dance track. In their music video, they show their bad side with tons of wardrobe changes. You can’t hold them down. This music video is fire. Looks like 2NE1 is getting ready to make their attempt at breaking into the US soon. Will they succeed where others failed like Wonder Girls, BoA, Se7en, and Utada Hikaru? They look like they’ve got a good shot.

English Lyrics to Can’t Nobody by 2NE1

Balmain to KTZ
Many style from A to Z
Jeremy Scott Givenchy
Bitch You ain’t got shit on me
Chrome hearts
Fendi furs
Dripped in shits you never heard
Louboutin Hermes

Ridin’ down Seoul city
Black on black Lamborghini
Haters can’t never see me
Come and get me, too slow
I’m bout that paper chasing
Body, fly face amazing
Burn burn keeps it blazin
Too hot to handle, can’t touch this
You think you with it with it
But you can’t hit it hit it
U know I got it got it

Cuz I’m so bout it bout it
I let them hoes know
I run this show show
We get it poppin
And we stick you for your dough dough
Cuz I’m so bad bad
But I’m so good good
Yeah I’m so bad bad
And I’m so hood hood!

Can’t nobody hold us down
Nothing’s gonna take us down
And you think you can stop it
But we just can’t stop it tonight
Can’t nobody hold us down
Can’t nobody can’t nobody hold us down
We gon’ keep it goin’ bout to run this town
Can’t nobody can’t nobody hold us down
Cuz we keep rockin’ we keep rockin’

So watch out when we come for you
Cuz playtime it’s done for you
It’s my time and it’s my time
I’m pound for pound, best to ever come around
Be patient it’s never been done
Asians we rise with the sun
Invasion, no mercy
Takeover, we thirsty

Every show we shut it down
Blow your speakers with this sound
Build you up then break you down
We comin to your town

Let’s rock!
Just take it to the top
Ain’t never gonna stop
Now all I wanna do is
Make you rock
Just take it to the top
Ain’t never gonna stop
Now make em say NA-NA-NA-NA

China rock band New Pants to play at Coachella

China rock band New Pants to play at Coachella

One of mainland China’s most well-known rock bands “New Pants” announced their first US mini-tour dates which includes a coveted spot at music festival Coachella. New Pants are among the brightest, original and most adventurous artists operating in China today. Four boys from Beijing formed the band in 1996. Peng Lei and Pang
Kuan are founding members and remain the core of the band. Their music was originally heavily influenced by the Ramones, but has since added elements of disco, pop, electronica, and Chinese local sounds. Major US music festivals often do not look to Asia for exciting artists, being more focused on the Americas and Europe. This year is an exception; New Pants is the first band from mainland China to be invited to play such a large festival!

New Pants will play at Coachella on Sunday April 17th. They will follow this performance with two shows in the NY area.

Sunday April 17th – Coachella – Indio CA
Monday April 18th – The Mercury Lounge – NYC
Thursday April 21st – The Brooklyn Bowl – Brooklyn NY

You can get their music on New Pants.

Last year, we saw another rock band from Asia testing the US waters for a crossover. Yoshiki & X-Japan played at Lollapalooza. Will Asian rock bands succeed where Asian pop could not?

More about New Pants
Formed by 4 teens; Peng Lei, Pang Kuan, Lo Bo, and Shang Xiao; from the hutongs of Beijing in 1996, New Pants are one of the most revered bands in China’s modern music history. New Wave and Punk Rock, particularly the Ramones, influenced the band’s early sound. Recently their sound and style has evolved to an 80’s/disco/electro/indie-rock collage. Leaders Peng Lei and Pang Kuan studied film and graphic design at Beijing Art University – Peng is an accomplished filmmaker/animator, Pang a renowned graphic designer. Peng’s clay animation film “Beihai Monster” from 2006 was a hit in Chinese indie-films, while Pang, a commercial designer, is responsible for some of Modern Sky Records’ best album artwork. New Pants’ flamboyant, theatrical live shows are representative of their artistic backgrounds.

New Pants’ self-titled debut album in 1998 ranks among the best-selling rock/pop albums ever in China and was listed second in the “Top Ten 90’s Albums” list compiled recently by Hong Kong magazine MCB. Their follow-up in 2001, Disco Girl, garnered “Best Music Video” and “Best Rock Single of the Year” awards at the Channel V/ Pepsi Music Awards. She’s Automatic, New Pants’ third album, brought home the “Best Video” award from the 2003 MTV Asia Awards for the single “She’s Automatic”. In 2006, the band released Dragon Tiger Panacea in China and Australia, which won Feng Yun Music Awards honors for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Band. A short tour in London followed. Equal Love was released to acclaim in late 2008, followed by Go East! In 2009, which caught the eye of New York’s Vice Magazine and led to the band’s subsequent involvement with Vice’s The Creators Project in 2010, a partnership with Intel (the band performed at The Creators Project event in Beijing, which also featured several of Peng Lei’s short films and videos).
