Strangers, Again Trailer by Wong Fu Productions

Strangers, Again Trailer by Wong Fu Productions

Wong Fu Productions released a trailer for a new short they will be releasing soon “Strangers, Again.” The trio tackles the ups and downs of relationship with Phil Wang and Cathy Nguyen (lilcdawg) in the lead roles. The upcoming new short “Strangers, again” is a look at a “typical” relationship through the rise and fall, exploring and explaining how two strangers can come together, learn everything about each others lives, and then fade away back to where they started. Here’s a synopsis for “Strangers, Again”:

The most unfortunate fact about a relationship that doesn’t work out, is the inevitable path both parties are on to become strangers. Many relationships follow a general path, through a set of different stages, one that brings two strangers together, takes them through a period of deep emotions and meaningful experiences, then returns them to where they began.

In addition to Cathy Nguyen, look for David Choi and Chris Dinh to make guest appearances. The short is slated to be released late next week. Get a taste of the music in the trailer, which includes “Cambridge” by Kina Grannis and Original music by George Shaw.

update: the short film Strangers Again is now available.

Dim Sum Comedy Tour

Dim Sum Comedy Tour

The South boasts the second highest Asian Pacific American (APA) population in the country, but few APA entertainers dare to breach the intimidating Bible Belt. That changes this April. The “Dim Sum Funny Ass Ninjas” stand-up comedy tour, headlining three of California’s premier APA comedians, debuts April 2011 with four shows in the South.

“The show is a celebration of APA heritage,” says comedian Paul (PK) Kim. The show touches into the practical (e.g. How to successfully win an argument with a female), the profound (e.g. the true definition of ugly), and typical “APA issues” (e.g. the challenges APA school children face when trading food at lunch).

“You don’t have to be of APA heritage to enjoy the humor. The ‘white people’ and Latinos tend to laugh the loudest, but it could just be the reserved nature of Asians,” jokes PK.

The show features three comedy masters who have performed worldwide from Hong Kong to Hawaii, from Hollywood to London: Joey Guila, one of P. Diddy’s Bad Boys of Comedy, a Filipino King of Comedy and current host for MYX TV’s MYX-Rated; PK, the founder of Kollaboration, host every Friday at the World Famous Los Angeles Laugh Factory, and host of Mnet’s new show Beats Per M-net; and Mark Zhang (aka the Zhangster), headliner and founder of the emerging comedy powerhouse the Cocky Asians Comedy, featured on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and Comedy TV, and frequent headliner at the San Francisco Punchline.

In addition to providing spiritual healing for their audiences, the comedians are promoting philanthropy through their tour, donating proceeds and increasing awareness for various community and charity organizations at each show, including children’s charities Vogul Alcove, Linking the World : Japan Tsunami Disaster Relief, and the W.O. Smith Music School and non-profit, performing arts organizations Kollaboration Houston and Kollaboration Atlanta.

The Dim Sum Funny Ass Ninjas are spicing up the South this April. As Joey Guila puts it, “We’re bringing the soy sauce back.”

TOUR DATES:
Houston – Wed. April 20
Dallas – Thurs. April 21
Nashville – Fri. April 22
Atlanta – Sat. April 23

To Whom It May Concern : Ka Shen’s Journey (Nancy Kwan documentary)

To Whom It May Concern : Ka Shen's Journey (Nancy Kwan documentary)

To Whom It May Concern : Ka Shen’s Journey, a documentary about actress Nancy Kwan has been on the film festival circuit for about a year. The film is the definitive and true life story of NANCY KWAN who as a young Eurasian girl from Hong Kong captured the hearts and minds of moviegoers around the world in her stunning motion picture debut role in THE WORLD OF SUZIE WONG (1960). And, in the unforgettable follow up role as “Linda Lo” in the all Asian, Rodgers & Hammerstein Hollywood hit musical. FLOWER DRUM SONG (1961), her career would reach previously unattainable heights.

With just two pictures in two years, the Eurasian girl from Hong Kong would become one of the most sought after young stars in Hollywood. But, the motion pictures that would follow would never again mirror, that initial success! This feature documentary “real life drama” explores “what happened” to such a promising career as it takes its audience on a personal journey, a woman’s journey, which is as equally compelling, as it is inspiring.

Nancy Kwan’s story is both fairytale and poignant.

It is a story of “Art imitating life and “Life imitating art” as the character she so aptly portrayed in THE WORLD OF SUZIE WONG, loses her only child in the story of the film. Sadly, in real life this same tragedy would occur, and her life would be forever changed by this circumstance! TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: KA SHEN’S JOURNEY also addresses the stereotypical struggle of Asian actors with Hollywood, and fully explores the highs and lows of a chosen career, but the heart and soul of KA SHEN’S JOURNEY is the telling of Nancy Kwan’s personal and spiritual journey as she endures the worst tragedy of all – the loss of an only child under the most tragic circumstances imaginable!

The film features JOAN CHEN, FRANCE NUYEN, VIVIAN WU and SANDRA ALLEN together with a host of family and friends of Nancy Kwan. It was extensively shot on various locations including Hong Kong, Cambodia, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Kansas City. Beautiful original watercolor artwork was created for the film by renowned Chinese American Artist Jin G. Kam. The poignant and original music score was composed by Chris Babida, the composer of the stunning Hong Kong Ballet score – Suzie Wong.

Lyrics to It’s All Good (TO’s Diner) by Triangle Offense

[Intro]
[Bry]
I know where it’s gonna..where I gotta say it
*Ahem*….HYUCK!

[Verse: Pwol]
“Oh, it’s you!” I said, “Who?”
“What they tell me must be true,
they say you’re just about as arrogant
as everybody knew.” So I am!
Handsome, flashy, random
And I think we make quite the tandem
I’m nearly perfect, you’re quite demanding
But until you come to that understanding
We can’t be, can’t you see
Baby, what’s yo’ man gotta do with me?
I’m so much better, guaranteed
I’m him times 10 to the nth degree
Plus 1, that’s if I had you
And I will, shit, you be killin’ it
I don’t care if you be feelin’ it
Take you from him for the thrill of it

::CHORUS::
[Sci]
Tell me what you like, I could keep a secret (Yea)
Where you wanna go? Who you wanna be with? (Huh?)
What you wanna have? Nah, I ain’t the average (Nah)
Tell me what you want, baby, you can have it
It’s all good, it’s all good
Mamma say, maco saw, it’s all good (Hey)
It’s all good, it’s all good
What’s mine is yours, baby, it’s all good

[Verse: Sci]
Can’t turn my swag off, so I don’t get my swagger on
I am on another level, I just get my bragger on
Show it and I prove it, I don’t get my chatter on
You can learn from the kid, Doogie Howser tag along – uh
Flight strip, red eye overnight trips
Dogs fightin’ over money, call that shit the “Mike Vick”
We never in a drought, let it rain around here
Paper, keep it eco-friendly, share the green around here
So baby, bring your team behind the rope
We could make a quiet exit, you and me elope
What you want, I got it, tell ya man to stop it
Copper Pennys on my feet, his are in his pocket
May, we, kick a little somethin’ for the
Ladies, please don’t be shy, girl
I see you, show me that you want it
Whatever your dreams are, I could make you live in it, I promise

::CHORUS::

[Verse: Bry]
See for a second, I thought you left your man home
Now I know you came alone, lookin’ for a man grown
Fit your criteria? Well, girl, maybe
But I ain’t finna make any chick my baby
First off you thinkin’ (Conceited…asshole!)
All of my haters stay heated and bashful
Yet they stay jockin’ my steelo apparel
Cause beatin’ me’s a long shot, Danilo Gallo
I be like “Oh yea, mami, if you wanna
Start a party, go and poke yo’ thing!”
And if you windin’ it slow, please let your boy know
Where and when we could take this fling – uh
Come on, babygirl, come and walk with me
I know you know about the haters stalkin’ me
Funny thing is they never would talk to me
They just sit and they stare while I live without a care – HA!

::CHORUS::
