Lyrics to Can We by Michael Carreon

i’ve been wrong before but i know that this is love
and we were meant to be believe me
and i know the cracks in the glass will make you wanna give up
but nobody said it would be easy

lets get away
what do you say

chorus
can we go somewhere far and take sidestreets
can we go somewhere fun and play games
just as long as your right there beside me
we don’t have to do anything

can we go out and take stupid pictures
can we eat too much then fall asleep
can we take off with no destination
can we stay home and not do a thing

and ooo i took the time
to notice how much you shine

Futurestates season 2 released its latest episode “That Which Once Was”. With the severity and frequency of environmental disasters striking all parts of the world, how does it affect communities. Every day it seemed there was news of a flood, earthquake, fire, or mudslide that is destroying the lives of a community. How doe these disasters specifically affect young children? How does a child cope with such trauma? How does a child move on emotionally? The short film “That Which Once Was” explores these questions.

Here’s a synopsis of the short:

In the year 2032, Vicente, an 8-year-old Caribbean boy, has been displaced by global warming and fends for himself as an environmental refugee in a hostile Northern metropolis. Orphaned and without connection to family or friends, Vicente now lives in a children’s shelter on the fringes of the city, and struggles with anxiety, rage, and disturbing memories of the tragedy he fled. On a hot summer day, Vicente sits outside the shelter and sees a mysterious man smashing large chunks of ice against the pavement. Thus begins an unexpected friendship between Vicente and Siku, the ice carver: two people from different worlds who have both experienced tremendous loss. Through their bond, Siku ultimately helps Vicente confront his past and understand the value of memory.

On last night’s Undercover Boss, BrightStar co-founder JD Sun made an appearance along with his wife Shelly Sun, co-founder and CEO of the company. The couple goes undercover to make sure the company they built is living up to the standards they expect. Having been deeply involved in the business side the pair roll up their sleeves and see what it’s like to work face to face with the many people they provide care for. JD also gains a better understanding of how their decisions affect the company on a daily basis and what changes can be made in order to improve. There’s a special place in their heart for the business of private personal health care. A search for care for a relative led the husband and wife team to create this hundred-million dollar company.

JD Sun shadows caregiver George:

He gets a firsthand look at what it means to give personal care to the clients in one of their facilities. JD Sun goes undercover to find out things aren’t all fun and games when it comes to calling the game of bingo. Can he pull things together or will they pull his number and send him on his way?

More about JD Sun

The creation of BrightStar stems from JD and Shelly’s journey with their late Grandma. They were surprised how difficult it was to find quality healthcare professionals to help her. After Grandma passed, they reflected on their experience and realized that there were other families who were facing the same situation. Forever grateful for the help their caregivers provided during their time of need, they made a promise in 2002 that other families would receive the attention, care, and service that they needed and deserved.

Prior to BrightStar, JD was a trader at the CBOE for nearly a decade. He is a graduate of Knox College and received his MBA from Loyola University. They are the proud parents of twin sons!
