Kristi Yamaguchi reads her book Dream Big Little Pig at 2011 White House Easter Egg Roll

Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi read from her children’s book “Dream Big Little Pig” at the 2011 White House Easter Egg Roll. She brought her story to life as she engaged kids at the Storytime Stage. Through her picture book debut, Kristi inspires children of all ages to dream big! Here’s more about the story:

Poppy is a waddling, toddling pig with big dreams. She wants to be a star! But she soon discovers that’s not as easy as it sounds. Whenever Poppy thinks it might be time to give up, her family reminds her to “Dream Big!” While on a “pig’s day out,” she has so much fun ice skating by gliding and sliding, swirling and twirling on ice that she doesn’t even notice those around her who think pigs can’t skate…and without even knowing it, she achieves her dream while doing something she loves! Poppy becomes the star of the rink

In this funny and inspiring tale that’s perfect for a family read-aloud, Poppy realizes she can succeed at anything as long as she believes in herself and has fun doing it!

Facebook Game by Peter J. Su : Venture Capitalist turns Singer/Songwriter

Facebook Game by Peter J. Su

We got an interesting note about venture capitalist Peter J. Su. The associate over at DCM has decided to forego staying longer in the VC industry to pursue other opportunities in music and music related start-ups. He’s taking a big risk to follow his dreams. Apparently, he’s always been interested in music from singing in choir in high school to starting his own mostly Asian American acapella group. But like many Asian Americans, he was led to take the more safe and traditional path: business degree with High Honors from UC Berkeley to investment banker at Goldman Sachs to a venture capitalist at DCM. The passion for music has never left him. During his time at Cal, he even minored in music. He’s now come full circle back to music.

Peter Su has released his first original song “Facebook Game” about social media, games, and girls. For his first YouTube video, it’s not a bad song. What do you think of the music from this VC turned singer/songwriter? It’s definitely inspiring to see Asian Americans following their dream no matter how old or far into their careers they may be. He’s not the only person channelAPA has written about with a similar story. Both directors Christopher Wong (Whatever It Takes) and Jen Thym (Lumina series) left the world of finance to join the arts. Who’s next?

(Thanks to David C. for the tip.)

update: Join in Peter’s new endeavor by covering his song “Facebook Game”. He’s running a contest where anybody can submit a video covering his song to Covermix.com. 1st place wins a chance to collaborate with him and an XBOX 360 S (the new black one). More details here.

Lyrics to Facebook Game by Peter J. Su

So I met the perfect girl
Just the other night
We talked but no number
Cause I’m kind of shy

I’m back at home now
Will I ever see her again?
And then I remember
I can add her as a friend

Playing these facebook games
Ain’t talkin’ bout a farm
Do you feel the same?
I wanna hold you in these arms

There are so many things
That I’d like to share with you
And maybe some day
I’ll be in a relationship
With you

So I glanced through your photos
All seven hundred eighty two
I think I’m in love now
Cause in everyone you looked cool

You know your profile pic
Looks so darn cute
But you know it’d look better
With me in it too

Playing these facebook games
Ain’t talkin’ bout a farm
Do you feel the same?
I wanna hold you in these arms

There are so many things
That I’d like to share with you
And maybe some day
I’ll be in a relationship
With you

So I messaged her on gchat
But she didn’t message me back
She’s always invisible
What’s up with that?

She’s playing hard to get
But baby no sweat
I know she’s feeling me
Cause I follow her tweets

Tell me, what’s your status
What’s on your mind?
If you had a like button
You know I’d click it
If you sent me a message
I hope I didn’t miss it

Playing these facebook games
Ain’t talkin’ bout a farm
Do you feel the same?
I wanna hold you in these arms

There are so many things
That I’d like to share with you
And maybe some day
I’ll be in a relationship
With you

No Rest for the Wicked Trailer

No Rest for the Wicked Trailer

Director Henry J Kim is doing the world premiere of his film “No Rest for the Wicked” in San Francisco on May 6, 2011. The movie is about a love story about two people who live outside of the law. Here’s a synopsis:

No Rest for the Wicked is a peek into a world of love on the run. Isaac and Kat rob, steal, and kill their way across the country while evading the police and other criminals alike. Their only loyalty is to each other, and their only friend is a black snub-nose pistol. They never intend to kill, but if you get in their way, they will shoot to kill.

“No Rest For The Wicked” examines the moral and social implications of being wanted criminals and the intricate implications such a lifestyle has on their relationship
with each other. It sounds like a modern day “Bonnie & Clyde”.

On the same night, catch an extended 8 minute version of John Raposas’ Mother. For tickets to these films, go here.

Don’t tell me your name we’ll just be who we are
gettin down like rockstars
put your head on my chest and let me do the rest

let the rhythm take you up up up and away
as the bass kicks, snares hit
we feelin ok
now the heat is up up up in a blaze
Let the speakers pop
clothes drop
