A Liter of Light : How to Build a Solar Plastic Bottle Bulb

A Liter of Light : How to Build a Solar Plastic Bottle Bulb

We’ve seen this video circulating the internet. In the poor part of the Philippines (Sitio Maligaya), they’re using things that you’d normally recycle or throw away to make their life better. By using a plastic bottle, filtered water, and bleach, a simple solar bulb providing ~55 Watts of light can be created. Isang Litrong Liwanag (A Liter of Light), is a sustainable lighting project which aims to bring the eco-friendly Solar Bottle Bulb to disprivileged communities nationwide. Designed and developed by students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Solar Bottle Bulb is based on the principles of Appropriate Technologies – a concept that provides simple and easily replicable technologies that address basic needs in developing communities.

This simple technique can brighten the lives of many in poor countries. “Solar Demi” shows you the easy steps to shed a whole new light in this world. See how these solar bottles have changes this community. Welcome to the light club.

Russell Wong in Ikea commercial

Russell Wong in Ikea commercial

One of Ikea’s latest commercials “Cabinet Doors” features Russell Wong. He and his on-screen wife go shopping at Ikea to design their own kitchen. His wife’s approach is to throw a party and entertain friends with Russell as a waiter. On the other hand, Russell Wong wants to romance his wife with food by carving a rose out of a turnip. Ultimately, the couple designs their kitchen together.

Jackie Chan in V8 juice & smoothie commercials

Jackie Chan in V8 juice & smoothie commercials
Actor/martial arts entertainer Jackie Chan is in a pair of new commercials for V8. (This should quell those Jackie Chan is dead rumors.) The advertisements feature Jackie Chan swooping into everyday life scenarios using his amazing athletic abilities – and his energetic charm – to switch an unsuspecting person’s drink to a veggie-powered V8 beverage.

The first is entitled “Balcony”. He slides down a pole from and replaces a lady’s cranberry juice with V8 vegetable juice. His quick tablecloth pull flings the bottle of cranberry juice and introduces the drink veggie style. After his drink switch up, Jackie Chan scurries up the pole from whence he came.

In the second one entitled “Sidewalk”, Jackie Chan bounces off an awning and uses his martial arts choreography skills to grab a baby stroller, whack away a “bad” smoothie, replace it with a healthy V8 smoothie, and return the baby stroller in one fluid action. He even puts a straw in the drink. His choice of exit for this commercial is grabbing onto a passing truck.

Expect these V8 commercials to run from October to December. If the campaign is successful, you’ll see Jackie Chan in 3 new spots launching new V8 drinks.
