Prison Dancer: The Interactive Web Musical trailer

Prison Dancer: The Interactive Web Musical trailer

The trailer for the upcoming interactive web musical “Prison Dancer” has hit the web. Inspired by the viral Youtube phenomenon, the “Dancing Inmates of Cebu,” the “Prison Dancer” is slated for 12 episodes featuring a cast of Youtube stars and some of the most exciting Filipino musical talent emerging in North America (Mikey Bustos, Catherine Ricafort, Jeigh Madjus, Matt Wells, Ron Josol, Nicco Lorenzo, Norm Alconcel, Pierre Bayuga, Joseph Sevillo). Think of the series as “Glee meets Miss Saigon” wrapped in a “choose your own” adventure. Filled with catchy pop tunes, star-crossed lovers, and engaging interactive elements, Prison Dancer brings together the best of Broadway and Youtube entertainment and takes transmedia storytelling to the next level. Here’s more about the series:

Prison Dancer is the story of 6 Filipino prisoners whose lives are forever changed by the dancing rehabilitation program that became a worldwide viral sensation on Youtube. Using surveillance footage, interviews with inmates inside the prison, and good old fashioned investigative journalism, pop culture journalist Matt Wells uncovers the personal, poignant, hilarious and universal stories of 6 prison dancers whose group dancing turned a maximum security jailhouse into a world stage.

Behind the prison walls, we meet inmates Ruperto Poblador aka LOLA (who along with his gay minions OO OO and NANA, choreographs the first prison dance routines), HOOKAPS, (the prison hustler), SHAKESPEARE (the prison’s resident poet) and CHRISTIAN, (the prison’s newest inmate) and discovers a tale of life, death, dreams, fears and ultimately, redemption.

Look for “Prison Dancer” to kick off the 12 episode web series starting in March 2012!

Lyrics to Dance On by Blush

On and on and on and on and on
On and on and on and on and on
Feels like I’m walking on broken glass
It cuts me deep, I won’t step back
Out of the fire, into the unknown
It really burns to be alone

But I’m forgetting bout the past
And thinking about the future
Trying to find who I was before we were together
My heart is like a ghost town
But I’m gonna keep looking up
Up, up, up, up up up
And no I won’t stop

You kill the music
Thought I’d trip and lose it
But I just gotta keep my rhythm
And I just gotta keep believin
That it’s just a matter of time
Til I heal this heart of mine
So I’m just gonna keep my rhythm
And Forget about it,
Just dance on and on and on and on

Got to dance
Gotta dance on and on and on
Got to dance

Keep that beat on
Til I shake him off
My tears have dried
My heart is tough
I don’t know where this will lead or what I will find
I’m living in this state of mind

But I’m forgetting about the past
And thinking about the future
Try to find who I was before we were together
My heart is like a ghost town
But I’m gonna keep pushing up, up, up, up up
And no I won’t stop
You kill the music
Thought I’d trip and lose it
But I just gotta keep my rhythm
And I just gotta keep believin
That it’s just a matter of time
Til I heal this heart of mine
So I’m just gonna keep my rhythm
And Forget about it,
Just dance on and on and on and on
Got to dance
Gotta dance on and on and on
Got to dance

Dumpling Days by Grace Lin

Dumpling Days by Grace Lin

Author Grace Lin is back with a new children’s book “Dumpling Days” just in time for Chinese New Year.

Pacy is back! The beloved heroine of The Year of the Dog and The Year of the Rat has returned in a brand new story. This summer, Pacy’s family is going to Taiwan for an entire month to visit family and prepare for their grandmother’s 60th birthday celebration. Pacy’s parents have signed her up for a Chinese painting class, and at first she’s excited. This is a new way to explore her art talent! But everything about the trip is harder than she thought it would be–she looks like everyone else but can’t speak the language, she has trouble following the art teacher’s instructions, and it’s difficult to make friends in her class. At least the dumplings are delicious…

As the month passes by, Pacy eats chicken feet (by accident!), gets blessed by a fortune teller, searches for her true identity, and grows closer to those who matter most.

You can get the book on Amazon.
