Mother/author/athlete Kristi Yamaguchi is part of a reading PSA from Scholastic. Her motto is “Always Dream,” and Kristi’s accomplishments prove that dreams can come true with hard work and dedication. Her achievements — on the ice, in her personal life, and in the realm of community service — are many, all of which prove her consistent commitment to excellence. In 2011 Kristi released “Dream Big Little Pig,” her first children’s picture book. The inspirational book about a persevering pig who finds her passion debuted at #2 on the New York Times bestseller list prompting the announcement of a second Poppy Pig book due out in 2012.
She hopes to encourage more kids to read with her PSA. Kristi Yamaguchi talks about her five most influential books:
1. A Wrinkle in Time
“I enjoyed the amazing adventure that the main character went on with her brother. It is such an imaginative story filled with excitement.”
2. Anne of Green Gables
“I remember wishing I could be “Anne” even though life sometimes seemed a bit hard for her. She had a spunky personality and was a good person at heart.”
3. Green Eggs and Ham, by Dr. Seuss
“I loved the rhyming, the illustrations, and the message in the book. Be open to try new things — you might just like it!”
4. Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice
“I read this for English class in high school and was intrigued. I loved dissecting the characters and plot in class and really got a better understanding of the book itself and for interpreting a book in general. The internal struggle of Louis throughout the book pulled me in even though it got graphic and scary at times.”
5. The Art of Happiness
“So much insight on your own “happiness.” It lent me much perspective during a time that was not so easy. Sometimes just a little encouragement and reality check can put you on a good path again. Best message taken away — we can choose whether to be happy or not.”
Singer Kevin Kaho Tsui continues his serenade of various women with his single Melanie. The love song has him fawning over and falling for Melanie. The soft melodic tune engulfs you with Kevin’s harmony. Which lucky lady will be next on his singing list?
Girl I’ve never felt like this before
Darling it’s just you that I adore
Your pretty face is always crossing in my mind through days & nights
I’ll see your beautiful eyes in my dreams tonight?
The moonlight is blazing down on the dreaming fool
I held your hand and whisper ‘I’m in love with you’
And by the tree we glanced upon the stars were dancing to this song
*Every Breathe You Take* – is where my love belongs 🙂
MAY – I – SEE?
WE COULD BE?
Girl I Love You So
We Got So Far To Go…

In the third episode of “Home is Where the Hans Are“, Wong Fu Productions introduces us to the father character Andrew Han, who is played by Randall Park (Too Fast). After fearing his first meeting with his new stepdad, Derek finally faces it, only to be surprised that Andrew is nothing like he imagined. In fact, they have a lot more in common than he thought. These two unlikely friends share a little more about themselves to one another. Meanwhile, Andrew is trying to avoid his surprise birthday party, but Derek needs to get him there. After a few drinks, will the two make it back to the party?
Here’s more from Wong Fu Productions about the writing the character of the father:
When we were conceptualizing the father figure for the series we went back and forth a lot about how we felt he should act. Should he be a traditional “Asian father”, strict, accents, generation gap? Well, while we definitely think that could be funny and that there’s a place for that… we didn’t want him be that stereotype, completely. TV already has an terrible problem depicting Asians always with accents, and we didn’t want to add to that. While it may have been more accurate, we’re trying to change the general public’s perception. …So we ultimately decided for a more westernized father, and to make him rather cool and outgoing, but with hints of the stereotypes peeking through. Randall fit the part perfectly. An awkward, but firm, dad that is a little lost but still finds joy in his family.
