The Humberville Poetry Slam

The Humberville Poetry Slam

The short comedic mockumentary “The Humberville Poetry Slam” made its rounds on the festival circuit a few years back and it’s available online now.
When Liberty Fu, an experienced poet, sets his sights on victory at Nationals, he decides to organize a local slam to find four poets who will help him represent the town and capture the title of Slam Champions. Here’s more about the short:

Somewhere in the sagging waist of Middle America, sandwiched between the Chik-Fil-A on Route 80 and the Wal-Mart, lies the small town of Humberville, population 8,201. But don’t be deceived by the white picket fences or the American flags, Ye Olde Creamery on Main Street or the Annual Quilting Bee. Humberville is headed for the bright lights of the National Poetry Slam. And ain’t nuthin can stop this team of Humbervillians: a hairdresser, a Dungeons ‘n’ Dragons slacker, an uptight lawyer, a carpenter, and a dreamer.

THE HUMBERVILLE POETRY SLAM is a short mockumentary film about a small town’s efforts to build a team for the National Poetry Slam. When Liberty Fu, an experienced poet, sets his sights on victory at Nationals, he decides to organize a local slam to find four poets who will help him represent the town and capture the title of Slam Champions. What he finds is an oddball cast of Humberville locals more than willing to unleash their poetic talents on stage. It seems all of Liberty’s plans are coming together…until one of Liberty’s secret weapons on his team drops out. He soon finds himself faced with the possibilities of not fulilling his dream to be the poet star that he thinks he is.

You’ve never experienced spoken word quite like this. This contest has no winners. Look for Giles Li as Liberty Fu and Emily C, Chang as Maharaja.
