Waiting for Godot by Janina Gavankar

Waiting for Godot by Janina Gavankar

True Blood’s Janina Gavankar released the music video for her song “Waiting for Godot” off her upcoming debut EP. “Waiting for Godot” refers to the Samuel Beckett play about two men waiting for a friend who never comes. Her single ponders the question “If I wait for love am I waiting for Godot?” Is ‘love’ something she has ever known, and if so, will she be able to recognize it? Or, is she waiting for something that simply doesn’t exist? The video follows the electro-pop music from slow and haunting choir to full blown dubstep chaos. For the video, Janina Gavankar plays a dual role of good and bad as they wait for love. This is only the first step for Janina Gavankar. With her up coming album you can expect highly-collaborative, experimental pieces that fuse IDM (intelligent dance music) and classical music elements together. You can get the single on Waiting for Godot - Waiting for Godot - Single or amazon.

More about Janina Gavankar
Born and raised in Joliet, IL, Janina Gavankar began her training, studying classical piano, percussion and voice as a child. As she grew, it was this love affair with the arts that also found her torn between acting and music. In the end music seemed to prevail, when she landed a record deal with Cash Money Records as a member of girl
group EnDera during her college years at Yale and the University of Illinois at Chicago. After a few, frustrating,
false starts, and a need for more, Gavankar seemed to tap into her self-proclaimed “inner-geek.” “I got bored waiting to make music, so I taught myself ProTools.” says Gavankar. This fascination with technology would stick with Gavankar until present day.

After months of postponing the album, EnDera disbanded. Emotionally drained and disappointed, Gavankar
decided to put her musical aspirations on the back-burner and her creative energy towards her other love—
acting. She headed to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career, transforming from one character to the next.
Her name can be linked to such characters as “Papi” from The L Word, “Leigh” from ABC’s The Gates, “Shiva”
on The League, and most recently as shape-shifter, “Luna Garza,” on HBO’s True Blood. Acting may have
taken precedent in Gavankar’s recent years, but she quietly continued to experiment with music on her own
terms.

She is set to release her debut EP later this year on Randy Jackson’s label, Dream Merchant 21.

Lyrics to Gone BY Kina Grannis

Stop in the dark where the stars are still shining on me
Go with the wind, let it lift away the memories
I tried to set you free
You kept trying to rescue me
But you can’t tell a heart when to start, how to beat

I never wanted to say goodbye
You never wanted to see me cry
Now i’m afraid to open my eyes
Are you gone, gone, gone?
Tell me i’m wrong, wrong, wrong
It’s been so long, long, long
Are you gone, gone, gone?

Back at the start we were the only thing that mattered
And we smiled, unafraid, as we filled the night with laughter
And I tried my best to see
What you tried your best to be
But you can’t tell a heart when to start, how to beat

CHORUS

Though it seems that we were not meant to be
I have to disagree, you are the one for me
And i know someday we could find our way
I hope it’s not too late
Please stay

CHORUS

Lyrics to Stolen Dream by J.Reyez

(chorus)
a series of emotions, I’m coasting during my sleep
ability of posibilities, spurring my dreams
imagination and our thoughts, in a state of mind
who we are and who were not that’s characterized

I wanna fly with no feathers (just a dream)
I’m trying to be the greatest ever (just a dream)
living where I don’t hate the weather (just a dream)
I just wanna live better (f*ck a dream)

(verse 1)
I wish I had a dollar
I wish I finished school and I could’ve been a scholar
and my bank account starting to get a lil smaller
and my drank amount starting to sip a lil larger
pushing myself away from anyone trying to get close
I live broke so I’m hating on the rich folks
they look at me like a joke, is it hard to tell?
living every damn day, not too far from hell
and y’all can see a different side of me
that feeling like the whole world keep denying me
and the voices in my head that reside with me
I need to rejoice and get ahead if I decide to be
a better me, chasing after a bigger dream
the inner me, I need something to intervene
get in between the negative and the negative
think you’re so perfect then f*ck what perfection is

(verse 2)
are you a ho? or a b*tch? or a real woman?
you should know the difference, do you feel something?
if I could buy you nice things, would you stay foreal?
get out of debt, we eat good, and I paid the bills
I’m trying hard but I’m barred in this living condition
give me a fixture and support me with my same ambition
that I had since I met ya, down to the second
look in the mirror with a hope for a better reflection
where my family at? that’s when my fear grew
where my friends at? where they disappear to
only a handful of people that I would ride for
but would they do the same for me? only God knows
I haven’t lost hope, I didn’t give up yet
I ain’t mad at ya, no emotions to get upset
my friends, brother, sister, mother in a better home
that’s my living wish and everyday is a stepping stone
