Yours Truly, Miss Chinatown documentary

Yours Truly, Miss Chinatown documentary
A few years ago director Daisy J Lin released her documentary “Yours Truly Miss Chinatown“. The award winning filmmaker and journalist made the film out of a desire to tell some honest stories about Asian Americans, and life as a modern woman. Here’s more about the film:

Every year, two dozen women compete for the crown of Miss Los Angeles Chinatown, one of the oldest and best known ethnic pageants in the world. YOURS TRULY, MISS CHINATOWN uncovers the intimate stories of three young women who vie for the title Miss Los Angeles Chinatown, while struggling to navigate two cultures with conflicting values. The crown is a link to the past, while their lives are a sign of the times. As the spectacle unfolds onstage, so does the drama of their lives – there are no pat beauty pageant answers to real life struggles with love, family, culture, and life as a modern woman.

After being maced in the face, a furious Chester fires the commentators and swears he will try once more to hit on Naomi (Elizabeth Ho), this time without lying, without wingmen, without their advice, without anything! He’ll just be himself. But Naomi’s a tough cookie — will she go for the “real” Chester?

The popularity of the part 1 of the short film unfold has spawned part 2. We follow Anne and Daniel one year later. Anne visits Australia, where Daniel has gone to study. However, something doesn’t seem quite right about their friendship/relationship. Many of us have been through a long distance relationship, be it 100 or a 1,000 miles away. Unfold 2, is about the countless struggles couples go through when the distance comes between them. Does distance makes the hearts grow fonder? Or do things like the time difference and lack of physical connection destroy our relationships? Get ready for a tearjerker. BTW – Lucky Guy by David Choi rolls in the credit.
