JTown Summer Sessions

Our friends at Tuesday Night Project, in partnership with Glenn Suravech Mosaic Sound Recordings and Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple, present: J-Town Summer Sessions: A Live Concert Recording and Celebration of Art + Community on August 6, 2011, which will be one week following the Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple’s Obon Festival event.

The event will take place at the Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple, 505 East Third Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013.

J-Town Summer Sessions will celebrate Tuesday Night Project’s thirteenth year of its 1st & 3rd Tuesday Night Cafe free public arts series with a concert featuring a number of musical artists from the Asian Pacific and Los Angeles community. In addition, music producer and recording engineer Glenn Suravech will be doing a live recording of the J-Town Summer Sessions concert and producing tracks of select pieces from each artist.

Hey NYC foodies. The first Asian “Feastival’ in Flushing, Queens will showcase the best of authentic Asian cuisines in the borough. In collaboration with edible Queens, Asian Feastival is a one-day culinary festival and tasting event celebrating local Asian flavors. See, taste and appreciate the diverse culinary landscape of Queens all in one place. Asian Feastival brings together a kaleidoscope of regional specialties ranging from piping hot Shanghainese soup dumplings and char grilled Thai satay to crisp Malaysian roti canai dipped in spicy curry. Beyond tastings, the event will provide a variety of programs for those interested in learning more from the culinary experts. Programs will include moderated panel discussions, cooking demos, an on-site Asian farmer’s market, a food bike tour, and a guided culinary tour of Flushing. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Food Bank For New York City and City Harvest.

Among the panelists will be Korean culinary superstar Maangchi, who will be demoing perilla leaf kimchi and spicy cucumber kimchi.

Jin in 1040 Movie

We spotted this clip of Jin in the upcoming 1040 movie. In the clip, Jin reflects on faith, perseverance, and personal transformation in this special conversation with pastor Jaeson Ma. Last year, Jin shared his Christian testimony online. (See Jin from battle rapper to Christian rapper?) The film premieres March 12 at the 2010 City of the Angels Film Festival in Los Angeles.

Over the weekend, the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival set an attendance record. The mission of the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival is to build bridges of awareness, knowledge and understanding between the diverse Asian Pacific American (APA) communities and the general public through cultural education, leadership development, and athletic competition. Anime Expo 2008

Anime Expo 2008 kicks off today. Anime Expo 2008 is looking to be, once again, the nation’s premiere anime and manga convention of the year. Anime Expo 2008 will be held from July 3-6, 2008 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA. Guests of Honor for the expo include up and coming director Masahiro Ando, legendary American voice actor David Hayter, famed POKEMON director Masamitsu Hidaka, the dynamic duo known as Jyukai, renowned animator Hiromi Kato, celebrated veteran voice actor Toshihiko Seki, the new Japanese “It-Girl” Shokotan and the legendary character designer Takada Akemi.
