Fleet Commander

Fleet Commander

From University of Illinois MS graduate candidate Arthur Nishimoto comes a demo of an interactive strategy game developed at the Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL). “Fleet Commander” explores how a real-time interactive strategy game that would typically rely on complex keyboard commands and mouse interactions be transferred into a multi-user, multi-touch environment. (How would you like this video game to come into your living room? Sci-fi war games are upon us.)

Originally designed for use with TacTile, a 52-inch multi-touch LCD tabletop display, “Fleet Commander” game play has been ported to EVL’s 20-foot wide multi-touch LCD wall, Cyber-Commons.

Arcade Dominator by Freddie Wong

Arcade Dominator by Freddie Wong

This week, Freddie Wong takes a break from his action hero duties to relax. He heads to the arcade and proceeds to dominate everything. Perfect game of Skee Ball? Done. Winning the major prize in Stacker? Easy. Guitar Hero? Child’s play. His arcade skills are amazing. Watch him race two motorcycles simultaneously. He’s even got skills on basketball and air hockey. Freddie Wong walks out of the amusement center with more stuffed animals that you’ll ever win.

He should have played some Time Crisis

MTV Silent Library

Last year, we told you that MTV was looking for a Japanese game show host. They found their host in Zero Kazama for MTV’s new show Silent Library. Here’s more about the show:

Modeled after a Japanese game show, “Silent Library” will test the composure, endurance and determination of six friends who will have to watch as “one of their own” is subjected to unbelievable challenges ranging from brushing one’s teeth with wasabi to having their face held in the path of the dreaded slapping machine.

Within each episode of “Silent Library,” a team of six friends will draw cards to determine who must step up to the plate to endure the next “test.” The teammate who unluckily draws the skull and crossbones card will have to complete the task at hand to the satisfaction of the host and moderator of Silent Library. Should a teammate not last long enough as they perform the stunt or should their friends seated beside them break the one rule of the library, silence, they’ll lose out on winning big cash prizes.

MTV Silent Library premieres June 15, 2009.
