Rock Jocks Trailer

Rock Jocks Trailer

The official Rock Jocks trailer has been released. The movie features Kevjumba aka Kevin Wu as Danny, Justin Chon (Twilight series) as Seth, and Gerry Bednob as Tom. It’s was positioned as Clerks in Space, but billed as “The Office” meets “MIB”. Here’s more about the film:

Imagine asteroids so large that they can wipe out all life on the planet constantly bombarding the Earth. The only things standing in the way are the Rock Jocks, a top-secret band of government employees, who pilot asteroid-killing satellites. The story takes place during a Rock Jocks night shift. Though they are there to fight off asteroids, they spend most of the night fighting off boredom, themselves, and the occasional meddling government bureaucrat hell-bent on cutting their department’s budget.

See last year’s Rock Jock teaser and Comic-con panel. Look for it coming to a theater near you.

Supercapitalist Derek Ting interview with channelAPA.com

Supercapitalist Derek Ting interview with channelAPA.com

Recently, we had the opportunity to catch the Derek Ting’s “Supercapitalist“. If you ever wanted to see an Asian American Wall Street or Boiler Room, this is it. Supercapitalist is a financial thriller about a young maverick New York hedge fund trader Conner Lee (played by Derek Ting) who is sent to Hong Kong to strike a deal, which quickly gets out of his control. It’s a battle of financial muscle between corporate tycoons and hedge fund ex-pats. It’s a unique storyline that bridges the world of money between New York and Hong Kong.

For this first time filmmaker, Derek Ting didn’t have a big budget for his film. Much like his character, he relied on his intuitive instincts to move his project/deal forward. Six years in the making, the film attracted a mix of well-respected talent including HK movies stars like Kenneth Tsang (Die Another Day, Rush Hour 2), Richard Ng, Lester Chan (Ang Lee’s Eat Drink Man Woman) along with Golden Globe Nominee Linus Roache (Law and Order, Batman Begins), Kathy Uyen, and Michael Park (2 time Emmy Winner, As the World Turns). Although he faced many obstacles along the way, he continued to persevere in his drive both make and distribute the film. The audience has already embraced the film from the rookie filmmaker as he takes his movie from city to city. Considering the movie had a small budget, it’s impressive that Derek and his team where able to shoot across three 3 countries and get global distribution for the film. Not only is the film making the rounds in theaters, cable and VOD nationwide, but it’s also got day and date distribution globally in 14 countries on itunes. Look for the film at a theater (fandango or movietickets.com), cable, or VOD near you or check it out on $upercapitalist or amazon

Win tickets to The Dark Knight Rises

Win tickets to The Dark Knight Rises
Joining his fellow brethren of superheroes, Batman (aka The Dark Knight) returns to Gotham City and the big screen this summer. Upon his return, channelAPA.com is working with The Dark Knight Rises to give away tickets to the film.

Here’s more about the movie The Dark Knight Rises:

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.

But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar® winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. “The Dark Knight Rises” also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake.

Returning to the main cast, Oscar® winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) reprises the role of Lucius Fox.

The 2012 Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF) announced the lineup for the films showing July 25 – August 5, 2012 with screenings at Clearview Chelsea Cinemas, Asia Society and Museum, and The Museum of Chinese in America. In addition to the Opening, Closing and Centerpiece Presentations – SHANGHAI CALLING, KNOTS, and SUPERCAPITALIST, they revealed its full lineup with more than half of the Festival selections made or co-produced in the US. Many are first time directors, including actress turned director Lily Mariye’s MODEL MINORITY, telling the story of an underprivileged teenage girl surviving the treacherous world of peer pressure, drug dealers and dysfunctional families in L.A. There are also a number of returning filmmakers, including H.P. Mendoza’s horror film I AM A GHOST, about a girl trapped in a repetitive routine in Victorian times. And Rich Wong’s raunchy new film YES, WE’RE OPEN, a sharp-witted comedy about a modern couple testing their boundaries of love, sex and honesty.

Other films of note include Pearls of the Far East, Seeking Asian Female, Touch, Viette, and plenty of shorts. You can get tickets here before screenings are sold out.
