The Last Pick with Jeremy Lin x Jubilee Project

The Last Pick with Jeremy Lin x Jubilee Project

Linsanity began one year ago on this day. Against all odds, Jeremy Lin became the biggest surprise story of the NBA. He generated a global wave of support and inspired countless young people to believe anything is possible. Despite his sudden fame, few people know well the person underneath it all — his faith, his work with inner-city communities, his passion to help underprivileged children. In the Jubilee Project‘s latest video “The Last Pick”, they collaborate with Jeremy Lin to help him share his vision and his reasons for giving back to the world.

The short “The Last Pick” is a video about helping others. When we give to others, we often benefit in return. It usually happens when we least expect the encouragement, but need it the most. In “The Last Pick,” Jeremy Lin helps a young boy, Chris, discover his true potential and they learn to be courageous together. We hope the story of Jeremy and Chris will inspire you to reach out to others in your local community and help them grow to their fullest potential.

The Jubilee Project is grateful for the opportunity to support their friend Jeremy. They have come to know him as a man of character and compassion who seeks to use his platform for good. And so this film holds a lot of significance to us as they have poured our hearts into telling this story. Through it, it becomes clear that Linsanity happened not only because of his basketball skill but also because of the integrity and humility beneath it all.

Former Miss World and Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra released her long awaited debut music video for her single “In My City” featuring will.i.am. The song was used as the theme song for Thursday Night Kickoff during the 2012 NFL season on the NFL Network. Director Joseph Kahn helmed the music video for “In My City” by capturing the essence of the song with how technology has made the world a smaller place, while giving you a taste of India along the way. The big production balances American dance music with Indian elements with multiple colorful outfit changes along with a young and vibrant style. Speaking at the world premiere of her music video, Priyanka Chopra said, “I’m nervous and I’m excited… this is another first for me… my first ever music video. We’ve tried to capture the essence of the song… which essentially is welcoming people into each others world. I was very keen to add some Indian elements into the video… from the styling right down to the ‘thumkas’. I had a great team involved in creating this video and I’m very excited to share it with the world!” You can get the track on In My City (feat. will.i.am) - In My City (feat. will.i.am) - Single or amazon.

Lyrics to In My City by Priyanka Chopra x Will.i.am

I know you got your own town
I know you got your own ways
I know you got your own life
I’m just sayin’ come on down to my place

Come on make some new friends
And tell me what you drinkin’
I know there’s no place like home
But I know you gonna like it in my city

Chorus:
Everybody’s welcome here
Everybody welcome to my city
We ain’t got no worries here
I know you’re gonna like it in my city
You know you got a friend in me
You ain’t gonna wanna leave
co-co-co-co-come on, co-co-co-come on
You ain’t never had a party
Till you come to party in my city

(Will I Am)
Driving down to boulevard
Coming out inside my car
No sitin in my backyard
Let’s go for a ride
Come on and ride with me
we got some sights to see
Baby just come with me to my community
Come on let’s go oh let’s hit the road
oh turn up the radio

We do it all night long
We got everything you and me
Music plays all night long
I know you’re gonna like it in my city

Chorus:
Everybody’s welcome here
Everybody welcome to my city
We ain’t got no worries here
I know you’re gonna like it in my city
You know you got a friend in me
You ain’t gonna wanna leave
co-co-co-co-come on, co-co-co-come on
You ain’t never had a party
Till you come to party in my city

When you’re here the city is yours
let the music play, dance tonight away
eh eh everybody into my city
come on in let’s enjoy
let the music play, dance tonight away
eh eh everybody into my city
come in welcome in my city

Chorus:
Everybody’s welcome here
Everybody welcome to my city
We ain’t got no worries here
I know you’re gonna like it in my city
You know you got a friend in me
You ain’t gonna wanna leave
co-co-co-co-come on, co-co-co-come on
You ain’t never had a party
Till you come to party in my city

Michelle Kwan gets married over MLK weekend

Over the MLK weekend, Olympic medalist figure skater Michelle Kwan and Coast Guard Lt. Clay Pell, a grandson of the late U.S. Sen. Claiborne Pell, got married at the First Unitarian Church in Providence, Rhode Island. (Just a few short month ago, the couple was engaged.) On Saturday, January 19, 2013, Michelle Kwan, who cried while walking down the aisle with her father, Danny Kwan, wore an ivory Vera Wang gown, while Clay Pell was dressed in full uniform. For the ceremony, the couple shared their self-written vows and incorporated the song “Fields of Gold,” the music from her final skating performance. About 250 guests attended, including Olympic champions Brian Boitano, Dick Button, Dorothy Hamill, and Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee and his wife. After the ceremony, four uniformed officers of the Coast Guard held formed a saber arch under which the newlyweds walked.

Kwan is a public policy envoy with the Department of State and the most decorated figure skater in American history. She won 43 championships, the silver medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics and bronze at the 2002 Games.

Linsanity the Movie : sneak peek

Linsanity the Movie : sneak peek

Before the glossy magazine covers and marriage proposals from “Linsane” fans, Jeremy Lin was a quiet NBA journeyman, so unknown to the public eye, the New York Knicks’ security guards didn’t recognize him well enough to let him into the arena. For months, in a grind that would wear anyone down, Jeremy struggled to hold onto a roster spot in the sport he grew up loving. Days from being cut by the third consecutive basketball team, no one could have ever predicted what was going to happen next. The unassuming Harvard alum would take us on one of the wildest rides in sports history as fans all around the world began to take notice.
Jeremy Lin is a private, simple, and humble person. They requested to film him repeatedly, but he felt there wasn’t much of a story to tell. At the time, it seemed laughable to him that his story would be something people would want to hear. Fortunately after much persistence, he graciously agreed to the cameras. What began as a film project to document the life of an overlooked NBA walk-on became a small crew’s all-access pass to one of the unlikeliest stories ever to be told.

Before Linsanity, they were documenting a struggling basketball player and the wild turn of events he was leading. After Linsanity hit, they captured a determined athlete whom fans want to know “What makes this man tick?” They gained exclusive footage with friends, family, teammates, pastors, and Jeremy himself, from home videos of a young Jeremy Lin taking it to the hoop, his personal reflections as he struggled through stints in the NBA D-League, that Christmas day when he was cut by the Rockets, to when he joined the Knicks with a coach he had yet to speak to and a playbook he hadn’t even seen. They traveled with him to Asia to explore his family roots and interviewed him about his hopes and aspirations in the NBA.

Jeremy Lin’s story is so improbable, Hollywood couldn’t script this for the absurdity of being too unrealistic. Jeremy’s career is the antithesis of NBA convention. He grew up as a skinny Asian American kid in Palo Alto, CA, home to some of Silicon Valley’s most successful technology companies. The more they dug into his story, they saw how each seemingly unconventional turn became the foundation for the next opportunity – each success and challenge became a building block for bigger and better things, weaving together an impossible story that could only have ever happened that exact way. They have had the exclusive permission to document Jeremy’s personal life for several years now, capturing never-before-seen footage of him at the highest and lowest points in his basketball career. An intimate portrayal of a rising hero fighting unbeatable odds, it is their joy to share Jeremy Lin’s story with you now.

Linsanity the Movie is headed to the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, but they still need funds to complete the film. Funds they need will go towards sound editing, graphics, color-correction, marketing, licensing music and NBA footage. If you want to be part of history, you can contribute here.

Kiana Kim in Pete Rose: Hits & Mrs. on TLC

TLC steps up to the plate with a new six-part docu-series sharing the lives of professional baseball’s most loveable bad boy, the All-Time Hit King, Pete Rose and his new fiancée, former Playboy model Kiana Kim. Watch the romance between the 70-something superstar and his 30-something fiancee unfold. PETE ROSE: HITS & MRS. premieres Monday, January 14, 2013 at 10 PM ET/PT and follows Pete and Kiana as they blend their respective families and prepare for a new life together.

Pete and Kiana are happily engaged – but as with many couples, the road to a wedding isn’t always smooth. This new modern family will experience all of the challenges other families face – and much more. Much younger than her soon to be husband, Kiana is a vivacious mother of two beautiful kids from a previous marriage, Cassie (14) and Ashton (11). This will be Pete’s third go-around raising kids, as he brings four older children of his own into the mix – some of whom have reservations about Kiana’s age and their upcoming nuptials. Together they will face the added challenge of determining where to lay down roots. With Pete living and working in Las Vegas, and Kiana and her two kids residing in Los Angeles, can they manage a long distance relationship under separate roofs in different cities?

Pete’s legendary history with baseball further complicates their lives. Kiana and her family know very little about that part of his past and his side of the story behind the public problems he continues to face. Pete shares more about his rise to fame in – and infamous banning from – the sport he loves, lives and breathes. With the support of Kiana and her kids, his family and legions of diehard fans, Pete considers appealing to the commissioner again on reinstatement. PETE ROSE: HITS & MRS. takes viewers along for the ride as he attempts to bring his new family together, celebrate his extraordinary career and live the life he’s always wanted to have.

Jeremy Lin defeats Knicks in his return to Madison Square Garden

Jeremy Lin defeats Knicks in his return to Madison Square Garden

Last night, Jeremy Lin return to ground zero of Linsanity earlier this year with the New York Knicks. This is the first time he has played at Madison Square Garden since he became a Houston Rocket. When he stepped on the court he got mostly a positive response. The backcourt of Houston with Jeremy Lin and James Harden took apart the Knicks by combining for 50 points on 18-33 shooting. Their relentless aggressive play wrecked havoc to the Knicks’ defense creating an array of scoring opportunities. With no Carmelo Anthony (sprained ankle) and Rasheed Wallace (sore left foot) for the Knicks, the name of the game was penetration. With layups and ball distribution, Lin scored 22 points with 8 assists handing the Knicks the first lost at home this season. Toward the end of the game, Lin got a mixed reception when he left the game with 2:25 remaining and the Rockets leading by 16. Lin saw some fans wearing his old jersey, but said he didn’t let his mind drift back to last season during the game. “I’ve moved on, they’ve moved on,” he said. “We have good memories, but at the same time we’re all in a different place now.”

After the game, he stated “Tonight I think we complemented each other really well. I think that’s really important for us to be aggressive and pick our spots and feed the hot hand. Tonight we did a good job and took a step in the right direction in terms of figuring it out.”

Here’s more thoughts from Jeremy Lin about the game
We’re just thankful to get the win. It was a lot of fun playing out there. I think our team took a step in the right direction. For me, it was great to be back and it was a lot of fun to play on this court again.

(on the reception by the Knicks fans)
It was fine. I had fun out there and was thankful to the fans. A lot of people showed out and supported and wore my old jersey, so I was thankful for the fans – it was actually a lot better than I thought.

(on the Chandler flagrant foul)
We know it’s competition. At the end of the day, I totally understand when someone comes into your lane you want to make them think twice about coming back. So he hit me hard and I still kept coming. It was fun and it was friendly; it wasn’t malicious. I talked to him after the game. He was like a big brother to me last year so it was fun to play a game with him.

(Thoughts on tonight’s game being like Linsanity)
Not really. I’m in a very different place now. My mindset is different as well. I’ve moved on, they’ve moved on. We have good memories, but at the same time we’re all in a different place now.

(on teamwork with Harden)
Tonight I think we complemented each other really well. I think that’s really important for us to be aggressive and pick our spots and feed the hot hand. Tonight we did a good job and took a step in the right direction in terms of figuring it out. But it’s early. It really is still early and I have a lot to learn in terms of playing with him and likewise.

This win definitely gives us a little momentum but the story of our season has been win two, drop two … so I’ve got to make sure we keep pushing forward and don’t get complacent.
