Industry insiders claim that Asian/Asian American themed movies don’t appear profitable, so they rarely get picked up for traditional distribution. Out in New York, the Asian American Arts Alliance encourages filmmakers to produce their own TV shows, movies and film festivals. DIY filmmaking and self distribution seems to be the way to go these days. The film “Better Luck tomorrow” released back in 2003 is still the reference point for a wide release Asian American film.
