Sleeping Dogs video game

Originally “True Crime: Hong Kong” under Activision, Square Enix has picked up the pieces and transformed the game to become “Sleeping Dogs”. Sleeping Dogs catapults players into the role of undercover cop Wei Shen, tasked with taking down one of the world’s most fearsome criminal organisations from the inside… the Hong Kong Triads. As players explore the bustling and crowded Hong Kong island, through its neon-lit side streets and sprawling street markets, an incredible story unfolds of loyalty and betrayal, where Wei begins to question his own motives as he is sucked in deeper than he could ever imagine. (Think Infernal Affairs.)

Offering players an island packed with action, every street corner, market stall, harbour dock or city skyscraper can become an opportunity for intense shoot-outs, adrenaline-fuelled street races and intense, brutal martial arts combat. Featuring one of the most intuitive and imaginative combat systems, Sleeping Dogs empowers players to perform an extensive set of martial arts moves, singlehandedly taking on numerous opponents. Players perform bone-crunching kicks and combos, vicious counters and a cinematic set of environmental takedowns making use of countless real-world items from circular saws to phone booths, incinerators to refrigerator doors.

Some prominent Asian Americans voice the characters in the game including:

Will Yun Lee as Wei Shen (undercover cop infiltrating the Sun On Yee Triad)
Edison Chen as Jackie Ma (Wei’s childhood friend with the Water Street Gang)
Parry Shen as Winston Chu (Sun On Yee red pole, leader of the Water Street Gang)
Ron Yuan as Dog Eyes Lin (Sun On Yee red pole, leader of the Jade Gang)
Tzi-Ma as Big Smile Lee (the most powerful red pole in the Sun On Yee)
James Hong as Uncle Po (The Dragon Head of Sun On Yee)
Kelly Hu as Inspector Jade Teng (Proud and strong willed HKPD inspector)

Other roles include
Robin Shou as Conroy Wu
Lucy Liu as Vivienne Lu
Lindsay Price as Peggy Li
Chin Han as Sonny
Steph Song as Sandra
Minae Noji as Rosa
James Hsu as Officer Dong
and Yunjin Kim, Terence Yin,

Here’s more about the game:

Welcome to Hong Kong, a vibrant neon city teeming with life, whose exotic locations and busy streets hide one of the most powerful and dangerous criminal organizations in the world: the Triads. In this open-world game, you play the role of Wei Shen, an undercover cop trying to take down the Triads from the inside. You’ll have to prove yourself worthy as you fight your way up the organization, taking part in brutal criminal activities without blowing your cover. Torn between your loyalty to the badge and the code of the triads, you will risk everything as the lines between truth and honor become permanently blurred.

  • A mature and gritty undercover cop drama, set in a high-tension underworld where every action is a risk that could blow your cover.
  • Seamless explosive action fueled by a mix of deadly martial arts, intense gunfights, and brutal takedowns.
  • Epic high-speed thrills: burn up the streets as you ram other cars and drive recklessly while shooting your way through the narrow streets of Hong Kong.
  • Hong Kong is your playground: Enter illegal races, gamble on cockfights, or kick back with some karaoke. There are countless ways to explore the varied districts of the city.

Sleeping Dogs hits stores on August 14, 2012 for PS3, XBOX360, and PC. You can pre-order here.
