Wings of Defeat on PBS

Wings of Defeat made the Asian American film festival circuit a few years ago. Today, you can see it on your local PBS station.

What were the Japanese Kamikazes thinking just before crashing into their targets? When Risa Morimoto discovered that her beloved uncle trained as a Kamikaze pilot in his youth, she wondered the same thing. Through rare interviews with surviving Kamikaze pilots, Morimoto retraces their journeys from teenagers to doomed pilots and reveals a complex history of brutal training and ambivalent sacrifice.

WINGS OF DEFEAT premieres Tuesday, May 5 on Independent Lens, a weekly series airing on PBS. Hosted by Terrence Howard, the acclaimed series showcases powerful and innovative independent films. Presented by ITVS, Independent Lens is broadcast on PBS stations nationwide.

Unfortunately, if you are in the NY TRISTATE REGION, WNET has chosen to cancel our Independent Lens broadcast, scheduled months in advance, in order to broadcast a special program on the swine flu! Apparently, the only way that WNET will reschedule a broadcast is if enough people email or call them to tell them how much you were looking forward to the broadcast and how much you want to see the film on WNET.

You can email them at: programming@thirteen.org

You can call them at: 212.560.2000

Please make sure to put INDEPENDENT LENS: WINGS OF DEFEAT WNET Broadcast cancelled on WNET in your email heading and ask them to reschedule the broadcast.
