Anne Son in My Generation

Anne Son in My Generation
Look for Anne Son as Caroline Chung in the new TV drama “My Generation”. What a difference ten years can make. In 2000, a documentary crew follows a disparate group of high schoolers from Greenbelt High School in Austin, TX as they prepare for graduation, then revisits these former classmates ten years later as they return home to rediscover that just because they’re not where they planned doesn’t mean they’re not right where they need to be. These students couldn’t wait to graduate and head out into the real world. But the world they were entering got very real very fast. As these classmates return home to revisit their old hopes for their future, they’ll discover that, even if you don’t get exactly what you thought you wanted out of life, it’s not too late to get what you need.

Caroline Chung, the shy “wallflower” in high school, decides to break the news that she’s raising his nine year old son, conceived on prom night. Here’s more about her:

Who I am?

I’m a mother, first and foremost. My son Tom is the light of my life. He lives with me in the hotel I run. I took over my parents hotel (where I grew up) a few years ago. Remodeled and made it my own. I’m really proud of it. Other than that, there’s not much to report. Tom is doing great in school. He’s in Kenneth Finley’s class, who I went to high school with. Kenneth is a doll. All the kids love him, Tom especially. I’m back doing this documentary, which I never would’ve guessed I’d be doing at this stage in my life. I spend a lot of time with my friend Dawn, who’s about 30 weeks pregnant and alone while her husband is away. I certainly know what it’s like to be pregnant and alone, so I think this has helped us bond over the past few months. Generally I’m just proud of the person I’ve become.

Who I was?

…is a different story. I was always nervous, shy, a little boy crazy. I never spoke, I had braces, and ZERO fashion sense. I did okay in school There was a lot of pressure to please my parents, who were VERY strict. When I got pregnant in high school, it was a real issue for my family. I don’t know that we ever fully recovered, but I DO know that my mom and dad love Tom just as much as I do, and would never have wanted their lives to have ended up differently.

Doing this documentary was much harder for me then it is now. I would over think every word that would come out of my mouth, horrified that it was just immortalized on film. Nowadays, that’s not the case. I’m happy to share my stories. Well, most of them…
