Los Angeles based hip hop band, Rhythm Natives, drops their single “Move” off their self titled album releasing on October 19, 2010. The reggae inspired track features Farmer Johneric of The Fighting Cocks. This was the last track recorded for their upcoming album. Here’s how the groups came up with the song:

The story behind “Move” is Asi Friedman (producer) recommended that we create a reggae inspired track, for the album, to show our versatility. To be honest, the sessions we had for this track were frustrating because we didn’t know if we wanted to go in the “dancehall” direction or the “roots” direction. After much debate, we were able to come up with something solid. As the band perfected the transitions and the timing, Glen and I wrote. Then, we ran into a problem. Neither of us sing. So the first person that came to mind, to sing the hook, was Damien Marley. Unfortunately, none of us had his number. I’m joking. The first person that came to mind was Farmer JohnEric. And, I kid you not, I emailed him the lyrics and within minutes he shot me the hook via text. The rest is history. Big up to Farmer JohnEric for blessing the album!

Lyrics to Move by Move by Rhythm Natives

Lot’s of loving they come around my way
But some in disguise them leading me a stray
I see ya, another day a new chapter I say
But now listen to the fashion ahead of delay
Mash it up with time while the mannequin steppin’
Move gotta move nuh get stuck pon di lesson
If bad man Want test? I’m equipped for the session
Alpha and Omega peace to war last weapon
Expose my mind fi them set up the plans with them
Back in the day you know burn up the time with them
Today all envious. My name out the mouth of them
Stepped up the pace so now the dust all over them
Ah them don’t like me and me no like them
Big up the team you know your game proper them
Rhythm Natives them the Fighting Cocks and them
Pull up, from the session, it’s iGlen

Too many suckas not enough rhyme
Hit ‘em with the rhythm native people it’s our time
MOVE! People let’s go
No time to sit back, relax, or lay low

Too many suckas not enough rhymes
Hit em with the rhythm native people it’s our time
MOVE! People let’s go
No time to sit back, relax, or lay low

Boom! Do your thing, boy. Level with me now
As we’re making moves that’s when the people seem to come out
Like, “I’ve been down since day one” type spit
I don’t give a shit for kids requesting part time bids
Look, you wasn’t there when the weather was rough
Folded in the fourth quarter when the pressure was up
Now you’re blowing up my cell trying to butter me up
I’ll tell you what, run and pick my dry clean up
Refill my Starbucks cup with that grande latte stuff
Water my fake plants. I got you on that intern love, bruh
So I’m the bad man cause truth done hurt
Hell if I make things worse, I’m out to get mines first
Hey everybody got ideas but nobody want to work
Want your hand up in the purse without the sweat on your shirt
I’m flipping birds within my words to show these jerks what they worth
I murder verses call the nurses for these nerds that I served. MOVE!

Too many suckas not enough rhyme
Hit em with the rhythm native people it’s our time
MOVE! People let’s go
No time to sit back, relax, or lay low

Too many suckas not enough rhymes
Hit em with the rhythm native people it’s our time
MOVE! People let’s go
No time to sit back, relax, or lay low
