With one simple tweet, Lady Gaga turned Filipino Canadian Maria Aragon an overnight celebrity. Last Wednesday, the 10-year-old singer uploaded a video of herself singing “Born This Way” as she played the piano on YouTube. By Thursday, Lady Gaga sent the twitter message:
Can’t stop crying watching this. This is why I make music. She is the future. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xG0wi1m-89o
On Friday, Maria Aragon’s video was all over YouTube as the most-viewed, top-favorited, top trending and most popular video. In addition to YouTube visibility, she also had a chance to speak with Lady Gaga herself at a local radio station. During their radio phone call, Lady Gaga expressed how she felt watching Maria’s video :
Not only do you have such a beautiful voice and you are so joyful to watch, but every once in a while, whether people believe it or not, I have a very bad day. I was not having such a good day and when Perez (entertainment blogger Perez Hilton) sent me the video of you singing Born This Way, I was so overjoyed that I began to cry. I was so happy.
The Winnipeg fifth grader was overwhelmed as she spoke with the international superstar. Not only did Lady Gaga complement the younger singer, but she also invited the young singer to join her on stage to sing a duet at an upcoming concert in Toronto. Maria Aragon could be the next Justin Bieber or Charice in the making. Her YouTube video has already hit over 8 million views.
