APA Month Day 12 – Jabbawockeez

America’s Best Dance Crew is Jabbawockeez. The Jabbawockeez crew was established by a group of friends wanting to showcase freestyle dance in 2003. Their signature outfit is wearing a white face masks and gloves while synchronizing their dance moves. The Jabbawockeez gained nationwide visibility first on America’s Got Talent, then reached stardom by winning MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew. They also appeared in the movie Step Up 2.

Cyclone and Quake in Asia

Back to back weeks of natural disasters in Asia. Last week was the massive cyclone ripping through Burma aka Myanmar. Over 100,000 people is feared dead and millions could be affected if aid relief is not allowed to get in. Now, we have a major 7.9-magnitude quake in China’s Sichuan Province. Almost 10,000 is feared dead. Looks like the Chinese government is acting quickly on this one.

San Francisco Giants Asian Heritage Week

The San Francisco Giants will celebrate Asian cultures and communities during Asian Heritage Week at AT&T Park, from May 12 to 17. The Chinese, Korean, Filipino and Japanese communities will each have their own designated night at AT&T Park featuring unique promotional items, special ticket offers, entertainment and educational programs. A special $20 ticket package is available for each of the heritage games and includes a limited edition giveaway and guaranteed seats in the designated heritage seating sections. Here’s a list of activities:

• Monday, May 12 vs. Houston Astros (7:15 p.m.) – Chinese Heritage Night presented by Kikkoman. Fans with a special ticket will receive a Chinese heritage/SF Giants Baseball Cap.

• Tuesday, May 13 vs. Houston Astros (7:15 p.m.) – Korean Heritage Night. Fans with a special ticket will receive a Korean heritage/Giants t-shirt. Entertainment will feature Claire Lillienthal School Korean Performers.

• Wednesday, May 14 vs. Houston Astros (7:15 p.m.) – Filipino Heritage Night. Fans with a special ticket will receive a Filipino heritage/Giants t-shirt. Entertainment will feature Hiyas Dance Group, SF Barangay and Likhas Pilipino Folk Ensemble.

• Friday, May 16 vs. Chicago White Sox (7:15 p.m.) – Japanese Heritage Night presented by Kikkoman. Fans with a special ticket will receive a limited edition Masanori Murakami bobblehead to commemorate the first-ever Japanese player to become a major league player. Entertainment will feature San Francisco Taiko Dojo.

• Saturday, May 17 vs. Chicago White Sox (6:05 p.m.) — SF Hep B Free Night. A $9 donation from each special $20 ticket sold to this game will go toward the SF Hep B Free Campaign.

2008 Asian Film & Television Festival

The 2008 Asian Film & Television Festival is free five-day event that will showcase films of varying topics that will help to assist in bridging the gap between Asian and American cultures. Here’s where you can go to catch the free flix.

Date: Monday to Friday, May 12 to 16, 2008

Time: 2PM to 4PM; & 4PM to 6PM

Place: Chinese Community Center

64 Mott Street, Manhattan

The other goal of the Asian Film & Television Festival is get people to visit New York City’s Chinatown. Since September 11, 2001, Chinatown’s economy has suffered tremendously through the loss of jobs, businesses and traffic access in Lower Manhattan.

G.I. Joe movie – Storm Shadow revealed

Last week, Paramount Pictures provided Latino Review with a first look at Storm Shadow, who will be played by Byung-hun Lee.

Among Byung-hun Lee’s feature film credits are “Three Extremes,” “Everybody has Secrets,” and “Joint Security Area.” His other upcoming film this year include Kim Jee Woon’s “The Good, the Bad, and the Weird” and Tran Anh Hung’s “I Come with the Rain.”

For G.I. Joe fans, Storm Shadow was trained by the same Ninja master as Snake Eyes. He is also the only member of the team to change sides several times, conflicted by his loyalty to Cobra, G.I. Joe, and Snake Eyes. G.I. Joe the movie is expected next August 7, 2009 .
