Dream Line from The One Days: HK

Wong Fu Productions is releasing some of their shorts from the The One Days: HK DVD over the summer. Today, they released “Dream Line”. (This was recently shown at the 2009 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.) Here’s the synopsis for “Dream Line”

A couple spend a carefree day together with the underlying knowledge that they may soon have to separate. The two share bittersweet memories as they recall their time together in the busy city. From the subway to the ferry, Hong Kong’s public transportation carries their story and also acts as a metaphor for the future of their relationship. Written as a prequel to “The Spare” (VC Film Fest 2008). Shot in one day in Hong Kong.

The short is done in Cantonese, but has English subtitles. With a new deal with YesStyle in HK, look for Wong Fu Productions to do more interesting things soon. Also you can pick up The One Days: HK DVD here. Don’t forget to check out the Won’t Even Start music video.

America’s Great Asian Pop Star Race

New York City is the battleground for America’s Great Asian Pop Star Race. NY1’s Asian Music series explores the competition to breakthrough to the US market including Utada, Se7en, Rain, Wonder Girls, and more. Japanese and Korean superstars are all trying to crossover. Utada was born in Manhattan and studied at Columbia University. Se7en is studying both Japanese and English, while living in NYC and working on his English album for the past 3 years. Rain is trying to breaking to Hollywood with films like Speed Racer and Ninja Assassin. (He had a dance off with Stephen Colbert last year.) South Korean talent agency JYP Entertainment opened their US office in NYC. Hopefully, someone will breakthrough. Who will it be?

Inside A Change by Rik Cordero

Filipino American director Rik Cordero is better known for directing music videos for some of hip hop’s hottest artists. However, in April, he completed his second feature film “Inside A Change,” which was inspired by the life of Chris Alexander. Here’s a synopsis for Inside A Change:

Chris Price (Ephraim Benton) is about to serve 180 days in prison for a first-time offense. When his mother (Karen Chilton) invites him home for dinner, he finds his younger brother (Darrell Vanterpool) following in his footsteps and his older brother, Shawn (Donté Bonner) disowning him. With his family falling apart, Chris is forced to re-examine his life and how he can bring everyone together for his mother’s birthday.

The world premiere is July 2009 at the HBO New York International Latino Film Festival. Music for “Inside A Change” include songs from Consequence, Joell Ortiz, Saigon, Royce Da 5′9″, Skillz, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Wale, Memphis Bleek, Sean C & LV, Statik Selektah, Illmind, The Kickdrums and many more.
