San Diego Chargers outside linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested Sunday and accused of choking and restraining reality TV star Tila Tequila as she tried to leave his home. Tequila signed a citizen’s arrest warrant charging Merriman with battery and false imprisonment claiming she was choked and thrown to the ground when she tried to leave. Through his attorney, Merriman stated that there was absolutely no wrongdoing. Merriman was merely looking after the safety of Tequila, who was drunk.

Tequila was reported to be Merriman’s girlfriend, but Merriman told ESPN’s Colleen Dominguez in a text message that Tequila is only a female acquaintance.
