2010 KAFFNY Urban

2010 KAFFNY Urban

The Korean American Film Festival New York (KAFFNY) announced five days of film programming to kick off Eventi Hotel’s Big Screen Project launch in New York City. Now under construction behind the Eventi Hotel (6th Avenue, between 29th and 30th) adjacent to Koreatown, the Big Screen Project features a 15,000-square-foot mix-use outdoor plaza to highlight innovators in film, animation, art, and to raise awareness for humanitarian and environmental issues. All films will be projected on a one-of-a-kind 30-foot by 16.5-foot outdoor LED screen, with tables and chairs for easy viewing.

KAFFNY Urban’s launch features an extended program and is scheduled to run from November 10 – November 13, 6:30 to 9:30pm, and November 14, 3:00 – 6:00pm. The program contains over 15 hours of film, video, and art, generally geared towards promoting Korean-American and Korean filmmakers and artists in a dynamic urban context that connects local neighborhoods including Koreatown, Chelsea and Flatiron districts. A new programming initiative has a focus on urban issues, including the LA riots in 1992. Programming highlights include two documentaries on the 1992 LA riots — “Sa-I-Gu” and “Wet Sand.”
