Wong Fu Weekends : Episode 46

Wong Fu Weekends : Episode 46

Wong Fu Weekends continues their time in New York. After hitting the National Museum of Play in Rochester last week, they stick around to try the garbage plate. (It’s not as bad as it sounds. We’ve had it before.) Wes, Phil and Ted field questions from a “hostile” audience at NYU. The guys share about taking risks when they started Wong Fu Productions, some of the early gigs they took on before they made it BIG on YouTube, and shipping merchandise out of their apartment in the early days. The wind down the video shoing you the dumbest thing they’ve ever seen at a shopping mall, a Hurricane Simulator.

For the peeps in college, the guys are still on the Wong Fu Productions Spring Tour 2011. Check the full tour schedule here.

Fan Fair EP by Baiyu

Fan Fair EP by Baiyu

Singer Baiyu released her sophomore EP “Fan Fair” dedicated to her fans. Here’s a special message from her about her 5 track EP with songs like Take a Number and Together:

My sophomore EP is out!! Why is it called Fan Fair you ask? Well, it’s because this album is really for you… the one that’s stuck by me through thick and thin, and told me that I could do anything I set my heart out to do. You’re the one that pushed me to create, to be inspired and to be inspiring. Therefore, my thank you comes in the form of song, and these songs are made for your pure, unadulterated enjoyment.

On a more serious note. There is a heartfelt reason why although Fan Fair is meant to be a free download, you also have the option to donate any amount that you’d like towards the project with no minimum. No, this donation is not for me – it’s for a much bigger cause. The tsunami and earthquake tragedy in Japan has, and continues to impact so many people that I couldn’t just stand by without at least trying to make a difference. With that said, 100% of the proceeds from Fan Fair will go towards Japanese aid relief organizations. This way, not only do I get to share my music with you, we get to share a little bit of love and support to the people of Japan.

You are my heart…

Baiyu

Yo-Yo Ma x Lil Buck

Yo-Yo Ma x Lil Buck

The worlds of music and dance collide in a special piece that puts Yo-Yo Ma‘s cello skills with Lil Buck’s dance moves. It’s an interesting juxtaposition of arts. (Think street ballet meets classical music.) Director Spike Jonze caught it on tape with this message:

The other day, I was lucky enough to be at an event to bring the arts back into schools and got to see an amazing collaboration between Yo-Yo Ma and a young dancer in LA, Lil Buck. Someone who knows Yo-Yo Ma had seen Lil Buck on YouTube and put them together. The dancing is Lil Buck’s own creation and unlike anything I’ve seen. Hope you enjoy.

The event was part of Inner City Arts, the nonprofit arts education center that serves 8,000 at-risk students each year. Listen to more about the performance and event below:

With a Black Swan reference at the end, Yo-Yo Ma jokingly says “Natalie Portman would be proud.” Lil Buck (aka Charles Riley) is a former principal dancer with the New York City Ballet.

Mortal Kombat Legacy : Episode 1

Mortal Kombat Legacy : Episode 1

Last summer, director Kevin Tancheroen unleashed his trailer for Mortal Kombat Rebirth. He showed a much darker and grittier version of Mortal Kombat than we’ve seen in the past. Quickly, the video went viral and fans wanted more. We haven’t heard anything about it til now. Here’s more about the episode:

When Jax realizes time is of the essence to save Sonya, a fellow lieutenant in the Outworld Investigation Agency, from Kano’s deadly hand, he holds nothing back in this action-packed, two-on-one battle to keep a shipment of stolen Robotic Defense Program material out of Kano’s hands. But can Jax and Sonya do it? Kano is a ruthless, evil leader of the “Black Dragon” international crime organization, and anyone who’s tried to take him down has never lived to tell about it!

The week before the Mortal Kombat 9 video game comes out, a new live action web series “Mortal Kombat Legacy” directed by Kevin Tancheroen has been released. The Waner Bros.-backed series is rated TV-MA for profanity and violence. Some of the same people from Mortal Kombat Rebirth are back Jax (Michael Jai White) and Sonya Blade (Jeri Ryan) along with new characters Kurtis Stryker (Tahmoh Penikett) and Kano (Darren Shahlavi). The first video has plenty of action alongside special effects. (Supposedly episode 2 will have Sonya Blade kicking ass and a showdown between Jax and Kano.) A total of nine episodes have been created for Season 1. Confirmed characters for season 1 include Johnny Cage (Matt Mullins), Scorpion (Ian Anthony Dale), and Kitana (Sam Tjhia). Mortal Kombat Legacy just started and Season 2 is expected to have Liu Kang and Kung Lao. Stay tuned for the future episodes.

The Earthrealm (Earth) is an unconscious participant in this competition and only a few select humans understand the consequences of losing Mortal Kombat and what it will mean to Earth. Lyrics to Louder by Vision

i’m sick of silhouettes sipping all my sunshine
through small straws so i’m saying now one time
if your voice is on the ground get down pick it up
life’s not living if you don’t live it up
not about the lavish, talking bout the reason
talking bout the feeling, talking bout believing
dropping out the season means the fans leaving
sit down on the bench until you start dreaming
fine line found between victim and victor
hip hop’s got a lot of holes we try to stitch her
up wards motion moment my words hit ya
frame in your brain these shades i try to picta

(we’re getting louder and louder)
are you listening
are you listening to the riveting sounds of the crowd stepping in
if you’re ready then i’m ready make a difference lets do it
real life rules means survival of the truest
if the people aint the symbol i ask you who is
(who is) echo-our time (our time) lets do this

I’m coming like the running man looking for the one shot
to leave an impression on ya soul like a sunspot
some got many voices they use to speak through
i have only one tone that mode to reach you
purpose filled, surface drilled
deeper level meaning category named real
i’ll keep on digging till you’re knocking on my core
you can see my whole life when i open up the door
shadows upset you, they’re here to test you
unless you let one get through and catch you
then you leave the lights on till i get there
i’ll be by your side till the return of the Son’s here

Its the anthem for the marchers, target for the archers
moving with the movement made named for the martyr
love is the admission so i know i’ll have the halo
but sometimes its hard to see what there’s left to stay for
some need the hard rock i don’t need the crackpot
they be looking for a lucky pull like a jackpot
snapshot up against the backdrop backlot
sitting in my car alone spitting on the blacktop
I’ll be intense-rather than laid back
and i know its saying something for me just to say that
if you’re not ready-suggest you stay back
depression took too much of my time this is payback
