Somebody To Love by Justin Bieber x Usher

Somebody To Love by Justin Bieber x Usher

So why are we posting this video? In Somebody To Love by Justin Bieber x Usher, there are a bunch of Asian/Asian American dancers. We spotted the Beat Freaks, members of LXD, and the ABDC Season 5 winner Poreotix dancing with Justin Bieber. Along side Usher, four Asian female dancers with hot pink fans strut their stuff. (update: this female dance crew is known as the Syren. Thanks ivy99! See the behind the scenes footage below.) Even the Chinese character for love makes an appearance. This year Justin Bieber has been utilizing Asian American talent in various projects, most notably Legaci as his backup singers.

Asian Americans dancers are slowly making their way into the mainstream. Also check out Quest Crew in some music videos : Outta Control and I Wanna Rock

Nikki Haley – South Carolina Republican governor nominee

Nikki Haley - South Carolina Republican governor nominee

Indian Americans are making waves in politics. Nikki Haley won a runoff election yesterday as the South Carolina Republican governor nominee with 65% of the vote. She is favored to take the Governor seat in November. If Nikki Haley wins, she would be South Carolina’s first woman governor and the first Indian-American woman in the country to win such a post. She’ll join Bobby Jindal of Louisiana as the second Indian-American governor in the US. Her backers include the “tea party” movement and Sarah Palin. Let’s see what happens in November.

Jeremy Lin works out with NBA teams

Jeremy Lin works out with NBA teams

A few months ago Ed Wang got drafted by the Buffalo Bills. Now we turn our eyes toward Jeremy Lin and the NBA draft. He worked out with several teams in recent weeks including the Knicks, Grizzles, Mavericks, and Warriors. Most recently, he worked out with the Golden State Warriors, the team near his hometown of Palo Alto. In the post workout interview, Jeremy discussed being part of a pick and roll system, the NBA Draft, being a potential Golden State Warriors, and being a role model to the Asian American community. If he does get drafted by the Warriors, the Oakland Arena will have a lot more Asian faces sitting in those seat every game.

Comcast interview with Jeremy Lin

In another interview, Jeremy Lin goes in depth about how being an Asian American has helped and hindered his career. (Similar to Ed Wang‘s story). He also talks on how he got recruited out of high school from Harvard and Brown. After choosing Harvard, he had to make adjustments in the East Coast, but had fun out there. (No In-N-Out burgers in the East Coast tho.) As for his basketball skills, his strengths are being a playmaker and defender. Things he needs to work on include his jumpshots and 3-point shooting. He thinks he’ll thrive in the Warriors system. Tune into the NBA Draft to see if he gets selected. If you’re wondering what Jeremy Lin will do if he doesn’t get drafted. As a devout Christian, Lin is considering becoming a pastor in a church near his Palo Alto home.

18MMW News- June 2010

The 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors are at it again putting their spin on the latest news that matter to Asian Americans. They cover every thing from Arizona’s crazy laws (see ) to the BP Oil Spill. On the entertainment scene, they talk The Last Airbender, The Karate Kid, Prince of Persia, and Mickey Rourke as Genghis Khan. (Something’s seriously wrong in Hollywood!)
