Angels by Jin

Angels by Jin

Jin just released his new official music video off of the last track to his Say Something mixtape titled “Angels”. Directed by Hossana Wong and produced by Carl Choi, Jin will take you through different areas of Hong Kong in a unique time lapse sequence as he lays his rap down. It’s definitely an interesting concept with an important message from Jin. As one of many soul-baring tracks from the album, “Angels” is consistent with Jin’s purpose in delivering music that – like the album- “says something” through meaningful lyrics that explore his growing process as a rapper and individual.

“‘Angels’ is as straight forward as I can be in terms of being honest with my feelings and emotions on a record. The song is me stripping myself of ego and pride and really baring my soul on a track,” said Jin. He explores his faith and aspirations in becoming an artist who changes people through his craft.

“I’ve been rapping for about 15 years now and I have to say that now more than ever, I actually feel like I’ve found my direction,” said Jin. “It would be rewarding if [the listeners] were to walk away from it inspired or emotionally touched by the content.”

When asked whether the “Angels” music video and “Say Something” mix tape were precursors to more work in the U.S., Jin replied, “From my perspective, my music has always been a reflection of my mind state at the given time. As I continue to grow in my faith and spirituality, I can only pray that I will continue to find inspiration and creativity to spread this message in my music. Given the opportunity, I’d want to release this material worldwide. “

Jump II by The Geminiz

Who remembers Jump by Kriss Kross? The backword clothes wearing kids that made us all jump in the 90s. The Geminiz (Rino Nakasone and Maryss From Paris of the Beat Freaks) redid the lyrics and put dance moves to the song. Check out Jump II. Who knew these ladies could rap and dance. All around hip hop artists up in here. We also heard some Japanese in ther too.

Vote APCF for Chase Community Giving

Asian Pacific Community Fund

A slew of artists including Dawen, Connie Lim, Mista Cookie Jar, DanAkaDan, Nathan Park and Chris Pham from Seriously, Sam Geunjin Kang, and Megan Lee got together to film a PSA over the past weekend encouraging everybody to vote for the Asian Pacific Community Fund in the Chase Community Giving. It’s great to see a bunch of AA musicians come together and take the time out of their busy schedules to help support a charitable cause.

The Asian Pacific Community Fund is a 501(c)(3) community-based fund that was created to fulfill a need for a unified effort to educate and encourage donors to direct their charitable giving to benefit community organizations serving the rapidly growing population of Asian Pacific Islanders in Los Angeles.

APCF partners with its 29 Affiliate Agencies to conduct charitable giving campaigns in public, private, and nonprofit organizations throughout Los Angeles County. Since its founding, APCF has raised and distributed over $1.5 million in unrestricted grants to its Affiliates. These grants enable APCF agencies to both launch new initiatives and strengthen current programs and services for diverse Asian Pacific Islander clients, including: disadvantaged children, youth, disabled, seniors, immigrants, refugees, battered women, and low income families.

Please join them in the effort to spread the word and get out the vote to help APCF win so they may continue to better serve the community. You can go here to vote. The top 200 will be announced July 13, and the numbers are slowly rising over the week for APCF (currently #123). Here’s the video for PSA to vote for the APCF with music provided by various artists.

Still Life

Still Life

Still Life is one of six finalist competing for the grand prize the National Festival Tour CINEMA ME Short Film Competition. The contest asked non-professional filmmakers to give their take on Asian American film in under five minutes. Here’s a quick synopsis of the film:

A cute, partly animated drama about a young boy with a great imagination and a father with high expectations. In Still Life the fact that the boy would rather draw than do math does not please his father very much. Though the boy is punished for this, he does not give up his dream.

Find out if it wins during the 2010 AAIFF in New York
